Grocery Shopping Done - Who Wants to Help Put Stuff Away?

United States

I always chuckle at the grocery store when they ask if we need help getting out to the car. We usually just say no thanks. Today I was in a mood I guess so when the bagger asked if we needed help to the car I said, "No, but if you could come home with us and put the groceries away we'd appreciate it!" She laughed and so did the cashier! We all laughed and I left the store in a better mood. My mood was caused by the fact they keep one half of the store a comfy temperature, while the other half you need a winter coats, gloves and earmuffs!

The baggers here are the cashiers; even that, they expect shoppers to bag their own groceries... so we can forget about getting some help taking groceries out to the car

We have self checkouts where we have to scan everything in addition to bagging it.

@yukimori We have them, I hate them! Plus we buy a lot, so I prefer a cashier.

Only once in a while does the cashier bag the food, if that happens then my husband does it, he's faster!

Oh, I hate having to put groceries away. It always seems like there just isn't enough room in my pantry.

What I hate is when my husband helps - I can never find anything after that!

@simone10 Exactly - and I have a 'system' for putting things in the pantry. I know what's in there until he messes it up!

@AbbyGreenhill Lol, I know what you mean! They just want to stuff things every which way and you have to be a detective to find it all.

Whenever I do any grocery shopping, I try to not get more than 2 bags of stuff. That way I won't have so much to put away!

I have 5 kids to feed, plus me and hubby. My carts are usually overflowing with stuff and I shop weekly. For awhile I was going to a particular store because over all the experience was better. Yet when I'd get to check out they'd insist that I needed a 2nd cart. I assured them I did not, because I did not feel like pushing 2 carts to my car. They'd insist on getting me help out to my car, and I'd refuse. I've been shopping this way for years with only 1 cart and no help to my car, I can handle it. But every week they'd keep insisting on "helping" me until finally I screamed at them "I Do this every single week, I can handle it!!" Eventually I stopped shopping there because their prices went up more than I could afford. I'm back to Walmart where nobody cares about helping me! LOL

I don't mind putting the groceries away so much as I do folding and putting the clean laundry away. Not much fun doing that but I have more laundry then I do groceries I think! My husband always carries the grocery bags from the car into the house for me, but he stays away from those laundry baskets.

The only times my husband is allowed to do laundry is when I'm really really sick! He doesn't 'fold' clothes - he stuffs them in drawers!

That was a great response, I hope you don't mind me borrowing it next time I'm in Albertsons.

It is so cold in the stores in the area with the freezers. Ugh. Chilly.

This store is cold in the deli section, which is weird.

It is miserable when you are dressed for the 80 degrees outside and part of the store feels like 50

Patti, this particular store is cold in just the one section all year long. It's not cold in the freezer aisles, but in the deli area. I think this is an old building.
