Phantom Smells

Do you ever smell things that aren't there? I've been known to smell KFC in my family room when the restaurant is way over at the other end of town. Tonight I smell cigarette smoke. Not the actual smoke but the kind of left over smell that may be on someone clothing. A lot of times I get that smell stuck in my nose when I have a cold but I am not sick now. Then I got up and went into the kitchen and I could smell bacon. No one has cooked bacon in a few days so I don't think there would be any left over residue smell. When I went back to the family room I was back to smelling the cigarette smoking. No one in my house smokes though my husband is around people that smoke (and sometimes smokes himself), but he is not here. In fact, my Scentsy lamp is on so that is what I should be smelling. Does anyone else ever smell stuff that isn't there? Is this a fibro thing? People with fibromyalgia have heightened senses and I definitely have a heightened sense of smell but that is usually for stuff that actually exists. This is really bugging me. I think I'll go to bed and see what I smell up there.

I don't know if it's a symptom of fibro, but it happens with MS. I smell things that aren't there, fresh meat smells bad, air freshener smells like smoke, coffee smells like tuna, etc. It's a question of asking someone else if they smell the same thing or not. Usually other people don't, but if they do, then it's real.

That happened a few times to me when I was working at my last job. I'd smell KFC chicken, while I was working at my machine at the USPS P&DC. I just figured with a bunch of machines running at the same time (there are about 60 machines on side of the plant alone), the smell was from them overloading. lol

How about trying to light up incense or aroma lamp (I forgot the term sorry the one that produces fragrant steam). you have a very sensitive sense of smell... that's great, that's an extraordinary. but the disadvantage of having that is when you smell something really eww.. if some people have Last Song Syndrome.... (you know singing/thinking about the last song heard over and over again, You got an LSS, too. Last Scent Syndrome hehe (just trying to be funny)
