Credit card debts

I am so against using the credit card except for online purchases when I need to use them. I don't mind using a debit card from time to time. I hate being in debt, so I prefer to buy with cash or use my debit card. If for some purchases I do need to use my credit card I always make sure it is paid back before the stipulated period. I don't like being in debt, especially credit card debt. How do you feel about using credit cards? Do you manage to stay out of credit card debts?

Well as much as I am trying to get out of debt, it seems that this last year, altho I have had some success in paying off, I had to get things that were urgent again. They are a trap that is for sure.

@TiarasOceanView They are indeed a trap The more we are in debt the more these credit card companies get rich. Honestly they wants us caught and trapped in debts. Hope you get out of this soon.

@chunhoong The card itself is not an issue if people use it wisely.

We recently got our first credit card in attempts to rebuild our credit so that at some point down the road we can buy a house. We got really lucky on it and got 6 months interest free. When we first got it we did need to pay a couple bills with it and maxed it out almost immediately, but we haven't been using it as much since. We pay the twins cellphones and Netflix each month, but then put more money on it each month to cover that plus some of the rest of the balance. We hope to have it paid off before the interest starts hitting, then we'll pay the balance each month to avoid the fees.

That is a wise use of credit card I should say. Thankfully we don't have to do all this to get a housing loan here. I have just got mine and bought our new home.

@sofssu Well we've had bad credit all our lives and not much we can do to rebuild it. We don't want any extra monthly payments, so we're not going to do a car loan or any personal loans or things like that. We figure the credit card is good because we'll use it to pay bills we're already paying, then just put the money on the card instead of on the bill. As long as we don't rack up any interest it's really not costing us any more per month than we're already spending.

I got credit card before and got in debt badly because that was tough time for us. Although credit card came at the right time, it didn't help solve the problem permanently.

@Shylambert Though it seems good at the time it gets us into more debt. Thanks for bringing this point up. I have been there too.

@SIMPLYD We all do that once in a while.. I guess that is fine as long as we don't accumulate debt.

My husband has one credit card. It is only used to book a hotel, or rent a car. Others wise, it's cash or debit card. I refuse to get in debt from spending money I don't have.

@sofssu Why thank you.. No, I agree with you my friend, it is not wise. For it seems to be the case once you do, you have a hard time getting out of it.

@TexanTornado You are a smart Texan my friend. Yeah I use my card for hotel booking and paying for stuff/services I buy online. I agree it is not wise to get trapped in these evil devices.

I have had to use it more often than I ever planned to lately, but it's time to put it away for a while, we don't need anything. I must keep telling myself that. We don't need anything.

My credit cards should be taken away from me,as I have been naughty, and maxed them out. It was something that couldn't be helped at the time, and I do pay on them every month, but I can't pay more than the minimum payment, and I sure do need to. I know though that if I am careful, and not spend what I don't have, I will eventually get them taken care of, as I just don't like beingi in debt to anyone. I just have a lot of bills and struggling at times, but I know I will make it one of these days. I have decided that when I see something I don't need, I just walk right on by.

@rosekiss you will end up paying many times more by the way of interests. I hope that somehow you have a plan to pay more than the minimum amount and get out of this debt trap. Best wishes to you.

Credit card is just a tool for me just like money. I use credit card to earn loyalty points to get cash rebate and to exchange gifts such as electrical appliances and shopping vouchers. I always pay all my credit card debts before the due date to avoid interest charges. I feel safe having credit cards with me in emergencies.

It is true. Some people just can not deal with the materialistic attractions appropriately. I guess it is like a knife; how you handle the tool determines whether its good for you or bad.

@jkct02 yes, it is like a double edged sword.. it could hurt us badly if we are not careful with it..

@jkct02 It can be a wonderful device as long as we know how to use it rightly. However, this is not the case with everyone; since the lure of buying beyond our means is always there.

Sadly, I am in credit card debt. It really is hard for me and my family to afford what we need without using one sometimes. My household is one income and it is tough. I mean, I don't go out and just buy clothing and put it on a card. But, I have used it to pay bills or buy new tires. But, we have a plan and are starting to execute and when the truck is paid off even more money will go toward paying it off
