I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 yesterday and the difference is amazing! On Windows 8 it was so slow to start up and to surf the internet, now it is nice and speedy. This is the first time I can say I've ever been pleased with a new version of Windows right off the bat. Usually, a new version is plagued with problems and bugs. For once, Microsoft has done a good job. I'm impressed!
Have you upgraded yet? What was your experience?

Any final release of any of the UNIX based versions is always better - just because they have a different way to handle the file system. Windows Operating system will always remain buggy just because of the core architecture - at least in terms of how they manage their Files and Applications installed on the system.

@thesids Any nix machine can stay switched on during months without having to reboot it. The problem here is that MS has released something really buggy. I have had to fix a very bad bug : no more menu, no more internet, and an error message at start. The beta-testers have reported it since last January, with the way to fix it, and MS did nothing. 1 to 2% of people using W10 are affected by it.

@thesids MS should better not fail with this version, but it looks like it is more buggy than 8 was at start.
I have XP on a desktop not connected to the internet for gaming. I have used several Linux flavors since 1995, but never Ubuntu. Actually I am running Slackware on my laptop, and I have installed a Debian console on my Android phone.

I have been using Windows 10 ever since the first build was released for testing, so naturally I was quite familiar well before it ever went live.
I agree with your evaluation of the system, but it is certainly not the first good system improvement. For me the greatest leap was from Windows 95 to Windows 98.

I dont view this sudden change as a big thing. Use 10 for a while and then let us know. I am not against as I dont have 8 or 10. But from past experience with MS Operating Systems I have always felt - the initial days of an install are always easy and smooth, even a faster computing experience. But over the period, it all turns out to be the same slow stuff.
I had been using XP on my Hard Disk's small partition. I very recently have migrated to Windows 7 on that partition and the system has gone slow in about one and a half months of my installing windows 7. I expect the same will happen with every Windows Operating System because of the way they manage their stuff, and the Applications installed on them.

I couldn't wait until I got Windows 10 and even the guy who worked on my computer called me brave for downloading as soon as I could. I absolutely love it except for one thing: Parental controls are NOT working.
On 8.1 I had it set to shut down, but windows 10 doesn't shut him down at all. I even set it for him to be on for only 3 hours and he is still on when I get home from work/school.
I have been tempted a few times to go back to 8.1, except I love the other features too much, like the start and though we still have apps, they are not in our face.

I tried to upgrade mine, but the message was that something was missing from my computer and it wasn't compatible.

Yes, I did upgrade, and I have also found it much faster. I got tired of having problems withwindows 8, and I certainly didn't like how you had to restart your computer. To me, that was lame, but with windows 10, it is easy as pie. I also think that Microsoft did a fantastic job on the new upgrade. I highly recommend it to those that are thinking about upgrading.

My work is related to computers and some IT products. I have been receiving cases wherein people are having issues with the new Windows 10. It is good to hear that you were able to successfully upgrade without any issues because I am also planning to use it in the future. =)

I upgraded a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure that I'd like it at first--there were some features that I lost that were almost dealbreakers for me until I figured out similar features in Windows 10 that would let me do what I wanted to do. Now that I've gotten used to it, and I've gotten the issues with the drivers for my old LaserJet printer fixed, I really like it.
I can't really say if it's an improvement over Windows 8.1... I installed it on my 2-in-1, which was running 8.1, but I only used it for web browsing. I definitely like the start menu over the start screen, though!

I bought this computer with 8.1 already on it. My last computer had vista. It took me a whole minute to figure out how to find the desktop then I couldn't find how to shut it down. I've finally figured out the basics but I'm still not happy. I've got pictures stored in three or four different places. I don't know how that happened and I can't seem to shift any of them into folders. So when Microsoft offered the free upgrade I reserved my copy but I haven't installed it yet. I've been watching the reviews and these discussions so I can make a smooth transition.

I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet. When there was an upgrade from 8 to 8.1, I did that one. I'm just wondering how many upgrades my laptop is capable of.
