I've been to many cities around our country and Chennai is the only metropolitan city in India where, an individual can walk the streets freely at night and can enjoy with their family and friends during the day without caring about their security. The work of police here is remarkable.
i was roaming near my college the other day in chennai and a traffic police stopped me for not wearing a helmet and for not having original copy of DL.. He asked about me a little and then completed all the formalities. he completed all the formalities and i had to pay some penalty. i also had to bring my original Dl to get my bike back. my house is very far from the college, so i tried bribing him. i offered him 200rs and as there was hardly anyone around, i expected him to take it. i know i was wrong, but bribing him was a better option for me than returning home and bringing my DL.
But that didnt surprised me. what surprised me was his reply. he straight away declined it and gave me a look that i will remember forever. i returned straightaway and showed him original DL and took my bike back,
one thing that will remain with me is the look of that officer. one could clearly see the honesty in those eyes and he made me feel very guilty. such officers are very much respected and such honesty is very normal in chennai.

Sounds like a very safe city to live in with honest people working there and that is a good thing.
