Tomorrow morning at 7:20 am EDT the first warning bell will ring in the new school year for us here in this part of eastern North Carolina. I will be teaching one new subject this year, 7th Grade Social Studies, and one subject I've not taught in a number of years, 7th Grade Science.
I asked a colleague who has taught 7th Grade Science for a lot of years now what was new since the last time I taught it. "Well," he said. "You know that since you last taught science they've learned that the Earth isn't flat, it's actually a sphere and, believe it or not, the Universe doesn't revolve around the Earth, but the Earth and the other planets in our solar system revolve around the sun."
Isn't that just like a friend? You ask a simple question and they make up some wild fantastical answer full of fairy tales.
I'm looking forward to a great year in the classroom!

@DWDaviPoor Pluto so far from the sun and now being demoted. He will always be a planet to me.

Thinking of you this Monday morning here, and not looking forward to school starting here in two weeks - we are just not prepared yet! But you reminded me of how near it is and I must get that supplies list out and go through it! I hope your first day is a great one!

Thanks for your kind thoughts. Today went pretty well, but it is hard to know how the year will go based on the first year. To the plus side is I taught or at least knew most of the students last year so am already familiar with their ways.
