A 'Like' Without Comment

When you read a discussion, you may like it and put a comment. This is how you interact with the initiator of the discussion. The question is,what if you like it and proceed to another discussion without putting a comment? Is a 'like' deemed equivalent to a comment? Will you get paid for it? My friend says a 'like' is a silent interaction.

A 'like' is NOT equivalent to a response or a comment. It probably doesn't earn YOU anything at all but, instead, is more likely to help the person receiving it (though we are NOT told that, specifically). My point is: Unless people STOP trying to second-guess the algorithm, this site is NOT going to move forward. It does not help ANYONE to know whether you get 'points' for doing this or that specific thing. What matters is that you post good discussions which you take part in by commenting back and forth. If you think someone's discussion, response or comment is good and has added to the discussion or to the health of MyLot as a whole, then show your appreciation by 'liking' it! ______________________________________________ *** It is your participation as a whole which is being rewarded, NOT any particular specific action! *** ______________________________________________

@owlwings @DaddyEvil that's why i liked the old mylot. when sites itemize and give value to each and every activity and update earnings immediately, i notice that members tend to focus on quantity, like how much they will post, how many they will visit and connect to, how much time they will spend to reach a daily, weekly, monthly target. it starts to feel like a place to work and you compare progress and earnings. i guess i'm still treating mylot as the casual discussion site i used to know.

@hereandthere Uhmmm... I thought this IS a casual discussion site? Have I missed something vital here?

I hadn't even thought about this, @owlwings , until I just saw this discussion listed in the sidebar. Very interesting perspective. Thank you!

I don't like just a "like". I prefer a comment because it makes me happy somebody "at least " have read or something to say to me .

Myself either, dear SIMPLYD.If someone likes my discussion without saying something about it,I doubt they have actually read it.Commenting is necessary.

@else34 Actually, no, I may like a discussion that is ongoing, but that does not mean I did not read the original post. It means I have nothing pertinent to say at that time. I am too new to this site to worry about whether I am going to get paid for any single activity. I am just trying to figure out what I am supposed to be doing here. If I am forced to make a comment I don't feel like making, then either this site is a waste of space, or... something else may be wrong here... Just my opinion, of course.

Personally I normally like and comment when I first post on a discussion but later sometimes I may like a comment which has been posted in response to that and does not require a comment from me , am not sure whether one gets paid for it..

I try my best to put comments on each and every post that I like and read.Putting a comment reflects you honour the writer's labour.

I do the same too,my friend. If I like a discussion,I try my best to comment on it.And,sometimes,if I like a discussion, but don't have time or don't know how to comment, then proceed to another discussion.

I like is an interaction . but it isn't a discussion.. we are on a discussion site.. it doesn't make sense to just give a like and move on. I do see some members consistently do that but.. it is not what this Mylot is about.

@sofssu That's exactly what I do.I am trying to be honest with the site I have joined. It expects me to keep interacting, and I keep doing so.A 'like' may be a silent interaction as my friend says, but the site doesn't want us to be silent.

Sometimes I can't find the "right" reply so I just don't. Sometime it's just easier to just like instead of coming up with a reply.

When I am really tired the whole day and only want to catch up new post and who is still around and active I only hit like but most of the time I do them both liking and commenting especially if I can relate to the topic.
