I rented a wedding dress--or should I say that my folks did.
This took place in October of 1961 when I was almost nine.
We had our Halloween festivities at school, and each class (grades one through eight) got to parade around in a circle in the gym for everyone to see--and for the judges to judge.
My dark hair--usually fixed in one or two braids--was let loose and brushed into wonderful smoothness.
It was, at that time, so long that, when my mom had it down in the morning to fix it for school, I could feel part of it touching my bottom.
I was wearing this miniature wedding dress (complete with veil), and--when I paraded in the circle with my fellow third-graders--I was taken out of the parade, led to the stage, and presented with the prize for most beautiful costume in my class!
Never got to wear one of those for real, however.
Even so, I once went into a boutique (back after I had met this guy in the spring of 1977--and he had ended up ditching me) and told the clerk that there was no wedding in my near future (that, in fact, the guy whom I'd most like to marry and I were on the outs) but I just wanted to try on some dresses to see how they looked on me.
It was a slow time in the boutique, so the clerk indulged me. I wouldn't have made too bad of a bride.
Oh well! Maybe, someday...

I've tried on second hand ones in charity shops and been really tempted to buy them just because they're so pretty but I think I worried that any boyfriend who came across a collection of wedding dresses in your wardrobe might get a little bit scared!
