Back Pain, Have You Experienced This Ever ?

I have read the posts of my friends at the other site of them having back pains . I had the experience of back pain too , that i wasn’t able to get up from bed one morning many years ago. It was my husband who helped me and took me to the doctor for a check-up. I was prescribed celecoxib after having my x-ray . After taking them twice for the day , I was already up and about . I was so scared of that back pain experience that I cannot recall what really caused it anymore . So let’s be careful of not stooping much to get something or the weight of what we are carrying specially when we are already getting older.

I have lots of back pain, have had for years. I have two herniated discs in my back and the pain radiates down to my feet. Every now and again it gets bad enough that I cannot stand. But most of the time, I am just used to it. You get used to a certain level of pain, and ignore it.

I wonder if that is what is going on with me. Sometimes the pain in my feet is so bad that I want to cry. My physical next month will hopefully tell me.

I think my mother-in-law experiences that too . She had leg cramps and the physical therapist said , it's related to her back pain.

Isn't it amazing @Rollo1 how you might start out with an 8 on the pain scale but after awhile, you adjust so much to the pain that if someone were to ask, you'd now say a 5?

At the age of 12, I was informed I have Scoliosis, which is the curvature of the spine. They wanted to operate to put a metal bar in my back, but I wouldn't be able to bend afterwards. Being I was 12, I opted out. About the only time it really bothers me, is when I stand for too long. The pain will get quite intense between my shoulder blades. It's something I have learned to live with.

I am glad you can now manage it somehow. I have some friends who have scoliosis and they too don't want operation . Just like you , they can just manage them and no bending . .

@SIMPLYD Thank you. For me personally it's a mind over matter mentality. I'm just too stubborn to give into it.

My spine is in the shape of a hockey stick @TexanTornado . The cervical area is more like crushed chalk and in the lumbar area, the discs are all broken pressing against the spinal cord. The surgeon wanted to place a rod with nuts, bolts and washers and wear a metal wrap-around and for the cervical, they wanted to attach a metal crate to my skull. I told them they could kiss my A**. I can't stand long either because the pain radiates through my buttocks down to my feet. I get massive migraines in the cervical area at the base of the brain.

i was planning on writing a post on aches and pains. You will be surprised a big part of it is brought upon us by tension. Relaxation and meditation can take away half the pain unless it is caused physically such as injuries.

@SIMPLYD Apart from physio therapy which is recommended even when there is no pain guided yoga and meditation can contribute greatly.

I have to agree. I think it is the same with anxiety and panic as well. Relax and correct breathing can correct a lot of things.

I am glad that medicine and your husband helped you Simply. I do suffer from it, sometimes it just comes on me for unknown reason. It stems though from injury when I was younger. Two back injuries. I am able to take some pills prescribed for back pain and it eases it but like you sometimes, I need to get in bed to rest it for a few days until improved.

I have struggled with back pain for years. I hate taking pain medication. I have learned to live with it. I am careful about sitting for long in one place .. Poor posture has a lot to do with back pain.

I am sorry it's that for you , my friend . My mother -in-law , now 77 year old and is thin suffers from back pain since last April . My daughter who accompanied her to the doctor said it's a combination of osteoporosis , osteoarthritis and scoliosis . She wears a carton like brace in that part of the back. And now she's also stooped already since that back pain . She still could feel some pain specially just like you when she sits long .

Back pain can have many causes. My husband has back pain last week, it seems it twisted his back while lifting something and now he needs physiotherapy to fix the problem.

The same thing happened to my son on Monday. He bent down to tie up his shoe laces and must have turned the wrong way. He couldn't move at all, even now he is just starting to get better and has a referral for physiotherapy.. He says he now understands what having back pain is really like.

My officemate too experienced something like that , when she was bathing and tried lifting the pail with water . She was bedridden for 3 days . When we are getting old things like these should be avoided or be done with extra caution .

I have had lower back pain for awhile now. It all stemmed from falling on my tailbone, and then going into my back after my tailbone healed. Beleive me, I hurt so bad, I could hardly walk for several days. I couldn't sit to well either, but eventually it healed after several months, and then I noticed my lower back started hurting. It knew it was from the injury I had received to my tailbone. At least it doesn't hurt everyday, but it does most days. I am dealing with it though.

@SIMPLYD I know. I don't sit too long. But it is the way I sit. I was told by the doctor that the way I site is putting pressure on the nerve and causing the pain.

@SIMPLYD I think even chronic back pain can be treated by swimming, or by performing certain water exercises. I've seen people with chronic back problems get better just by doing moves in the water.

I have always had problems with my back. It started in my 20's. I was always pulling my back out. Once, all I did was bend over to brush my teeth and my back went out. I am having a lot of lower back pain now and will have it checked out when I see my doctor next month.

It's recommended at many jobs to make sure you bed with the knees and not twist at the waist to minimize such aches and pains. Problem is we don't always follow that idea when at home. I have a situation where I can't bend one knee, therefore, I can no longer stoop very low at all. When I pick stuff up from the floor I mainly bend at the waist, which isn't the best. Even then, I've been doing it that way for years with no problems. I did have lower back pain when I was younger and skinnier, but it healed up before I got to thirty. As I got older I had a bit of that again. Recently though, I think I must have twisted incorrectly or something as I've had a bit of sciatica pain on my right side. I know it's not as bad as some people will get, but it's not fun either. I thought I'd have to go to the chiropractor for relief, but it seems to be better in the last few days, so I'm hoping I won't re-injure it again soon. I do a lot of lifting at work, putting away small boxes of stock consisting mostly in bags used for bagging up groceries at the store where I work. I think it was while doing that that I bent wrong, but not sure.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, i noticed that younger ones too feels back pain once in a while . I think it's a case of too much straining of the back muscles by their activities . Be careful then of bending . Don't bend too much .

Oh , please be careful now of lifting a bit heavy things . As we get older , we should take into consideration our backs and knees . They are the most prone area of pain at this age . I for one , was prohibited by the doctor to lift a bit heavy things , not because of my back but because i had prolapsed bladder before and it was corrected through a minor surgery . But then , i don't just bend that low anymore because i am avoiding to have future back pains . I think because we are aging we should be careful in twisting and bending .

@SIMPLYD Although I agree that as we age we need to be careful, I know that many of these issues affect the younger crowd too. Some of the aches stretch on for them just like they do for those getting older. The boxes I lift are fairly small. It could be that it wasn't even that at all, but rather me having to bend almost to the floor to access my new locker.

@SIMPLYD Mind over matter mostly. Sometimes I'll use what is called a Tends Unit. It's a hand-held machine that you attach electric pads to where it hurts and it will massage the area. Otherwise, if it's at the base of the skull (cervical area), I moisten a washcloth and put it in the microwave oven to heat as hot as I can stand and then place it at the base of the skull.

I'm very aware with Back Pain. Everyday I bring big bag ( contains 14" Laptop, book & stationary ) from home to office by city bus. The travel could take 1 hour or more and sometimes in crowded days and hours I will have to stand up all time during the travel. And yes, it gives pain to my back because my bag is heavy enough. How I wish I could drive a motor cycle

With the heavy weight of your bag , it surely will give you a back pain since you aare standing up all the time you are travelling . Yes, why not buy a motorcycle so it could have a carrier where you can just put your backpack ..

I deal with back pain on a daily basis. I have a Pain Management doctor that is truly amazing. Even though he's not able to take all the pain away, he has truly lessened my pain. I've had to have 6 back surgeries. I had a neurostimulator implanted and it was the best thing I ever decided to have done, it's truly amazing the relief I've had from it. I would recommend it to anyone who experiences major back pain.

@SIMPLYD I thought I was amazing also for having dealt with these back surgeries. Update: I honestly thought back then that the pain management doctor I had was helping to resolve the issue of my pain, the reality was that he was just masking it. Since then, my pain has gotten so much worse. I spend every day sitting or lying around doing absolutely nothing because it hurts so much to get up and around anymore. I went in for another surgery and thought that would give me some relief. Nothing has changed, in fact, the pain has gotten so much worse. Now I am faced with the idea of getting a pain pump implanted. I'm not sure how I think about it because I just think it's going to be the same thing as prescribing pain medications like they have been doing all along. The only differences I see is now I'll be taking two less pills a month and they will be injecting the pump with the medications every month. I never thought in a million years that I would end up having to deal with something like this. As I get older, I thought I'd be able to travel around and explore the world. That was my dream but that has now been taken away from me. I can understand now why so many people with back pain get so depressed.
