Things you waste money on

I've just read an article about dumb things people waste money on. Obviously I can't repeat them all here, but one that immediately caught my attention was high credit card interest rates. I've had a credit card for a long time, but I make sure to pay off my debt in full every month so that I never have to pay interest. If I can't afford to buy something I'll wait until I've got the money before buying it. Do you waste money on credit card interest? What other dumb ways do you waste money? ----------------------------------------------- If you're interested in the full list, you can read the article here:

Things I had been wasting a few dollars on were $1 or less items on Amazon. I am no longer doing so as it adds up.

@TiarasOceanView I guess that's an easy mistake to make. When you buy one item it doesn't seem like you're spending a lot, but over time those dollars can sure add up.

I waste money in many dumb ways. But they don't take the bulk of my money, lol. It's the ways I can't avoid, like rent, food, utilities - those are the things that really take my money. Which leaves me a little to be dumb with, I guess.

@Rollo1 Nobody's perfect and I'm certainly guilty of wasting money in other ways. I just chose to mention credit card debt because that is one that gets a lot of people into serious trouble.

I consider myself to be pretty economical, and the only thing on that list I might buy is brand-name products. But I'm not the kind of person that needs everything to be brand-name, only if it's something I know is better. I don't think I've ever ordered something that had a high shipping fee, usually it's free or just a few dollars. When I think about it, the one thing I might spend too much money on is clothing. But the clothing I buy isn't very expensive, I just have a lot of clothes. :D

@Gina145 I like keeping up with fashion, but the thing is, you don't need a lot of money to do so. I hardly ever buy brand name clothes and I'd like to think I still look pretty fashionable.

@maclanis I don't generally worry about brands - only when it comes to cameras, because once you buy a camera with interchangeable lenses as I did, you're pretty much married to that brand unless you sell everything and start over. I certainly don't spend money on expensive clothes and I'm not too worried about keeping up with the latest fashions either.

My husband and I use credit cards, but we always pay off our debt. Right now we spend too much money on sodas and candy, but we going to change that next month. It is unhealthy and a waste of money as well. We like to visit the international restaurants in our area, and sometimes we spend too much money on food.

@Porcospino I've given up drinking sodas (except occasionally at a restaurant) because I know they're unhealthy. Unfortunately we spend too much on food though, and especially on my big weakness - chocolate.

I giot myself in hot water with my credit cards, as I ended up maxing them out, but most of the amount was fixing up the rental I have so I could rent it again. Since then, I really don't use my credit cards for anything, unless I use one to help pay a bill that I might be short or money on. Beieve me, I have learned the hard way, and now, I don't spend money that I don't have.

@Gina145 I had to, so that I would have money for my bills. For the most part I am getting them paid, and that is a goodt thing. I feel as long as I have money left at the end of the month, before the rent comes in again, I am doing better. The thing I found out is, just don't spend, and so therefore, I stay home most days, and only spend money, when I get it, but to be very frugal and only spend what I need.

I have about a half dozen credit cards I just paid off, now I'm only using the one from my credit union because the Interest rate is the lowest. You're right, I was wasting a ton of money paying the Interest rates on credit that seemed like it was never getting paid down. I could be wasting that money on other useless things.

My hubby owns credit card and he uses the same when it is required urgently. I never used any credit card for buying things. Personally I felt it will be good to keep away from the use of credit cards. However, I agree when we are in a great need and we are running out of money credit card help in a great way. All depending on us how we use the same and how to spend. The interest is so high on credits cards.

I don't spend my money on anything dumb. I pay my bills then if I don't have any money left I don't spend. I do not do credit cards as I don't want the hassle. But I've seen alot of people waste away money they don't have then can't pay bills etc. That's definitely not me

I hardly ever spend money on things I want, it's usually things I need. The only time I will splurge is if we go on vacation and I need some extra spending money. I think that's a good thing to spend money on because you are creating powerful memories!

@dashboardc33 That sounds like a sensible way to live. A lot of people waste money on stuff they don't really need and just clutter their homes unnecessarily.

I'm usually pretty good about not wasting money on stuff I don't need. We may splurge on going out to dinner or breakfast once in a while, but we always make sure we have enough for the bills and food and mortgage before we spend any real money on ourselves. As far as credit cards go, I have 1 that I am usually pretty good at paying off every month. We also have a Care Credit for dental or eye wear that has no interest on it anyway so it's not too bad to put money on it since we kind of need to take care of our teeth and eyes.

@DanieGirl80587 It sounds like you've got everything worked out well. We've all got to spoil ourselves once in a while, and I'm sure that the money you save by paying your credit cards off on time helps with those little extras.

@chatterboxboy It really depends how you use it. The reason I pay for most things using a credit card is because I don't feel safe carrying a lot of cash.

I totally agree with that ...I always believe in living within my means so as a rule never use credit cards unless absolutely essential and am sure of paying back within the stipulated time. .
