We Are Getting Bella A Sister

Good morning all. If things work out today, we will be getting Bella a new sister. Back in March we had to have our little Cricket put to sleep. She was 15 years old and very sick. Ever since Cricket has been gone, you can tell Bella has missed her. She kind of wanders around the house as if looking for her and she has become very needy, much more than usual. My brother and I have talked about getting a new puppy for about a month now. We would go to a shelter and get a dog but Bella is not normally dog friendly although she does really well with a puppy. We were lucky that Bella got along so well with Cricket but then again, Cricket was a very laid back and submissive dog. Bella is no doubt an alpha dog. But a lot of that has to do with her being left outside with other big dogs when she was a puppy. The same owner was the one who abused her. This all happened before I got her. If things work out today, we will be getting another dachshund which will be a puppy. I just have to wait and call this morning to see if she is still available. I hope to be able to post pictures tomorrow.

That is great news Simone! The little dog will be happy with a new sister. Cant wait to see the pics if you do put them up. Good luck too, hope it goes thru alright today. Animals need companionship.

Thanks! We had to put it off another day because my brother wasn't feeling good this afternoon. I hope the lady still has the puppy today.

@simone10 Don't worry, if this one isn't available, maybe it wasn't the right one. There are way too many unwanted dogs, including puppies, I'm sure there is one out there for you.

My brother was sick yesterday afternoon so we had to put it off until today. Keeping fingers crossed that the puppy is still available.

I went and got my 3 year old dog a 7 week old puppy and the puppy was with 8 other siblings and we think she feels our older dog is her mama. My older dog and her play and sleep near each other and eat together. My older dog has taught her a lot and they are so cute together. It was definitely the correct thing to do.

@sacmom Thanks! I'm sure all will go okay but I am a little worried. I will probably have to keep an eye on them at first so that Bella doesn't play to rough.

That will be so nice for Bella! It'll be good for her to have a companion again. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well and we'll see the pics later on!

She has usually been really good with puppies so we shall see. If we get the puppy today, I will definitely post pictures.

I really have. After getting Bella, I have found that I love dachshunds. They are so personable and very smart but also very stubborn.

Bella is such a cute dog and I hope you can find her a friend to play with. When I brought the puppy in the house my other dog and her immediately bonded. I am hoping it will be the same way at your house.

Do put some pictures up when you have the new puppy.

@simone10 OH a chocolate I absolutely love that color. I used to have a chocolate lab who was so smart she was unbelievable. I know you will love your new puppy and so will Bella. We will be waiting to see those pictures.

Thank you! She is chocolate brown which you don't see too often. I am also hoping that they get along right away. I will post pictures

Bella is that way too. I think most dachshunds are that way. Right now, I'm sure a puppy will be more submissive but as the puppy grows up, there may be some issues over who is the dominant one.

Oh wow.. how exciting..

I need a dog myself. After my sweet girl passed on I couldn't bring myself to get another pup.. but I guess i am getting emotionally ready now.

It is hard to lose a pet. I think you would be surprised at how comforting a new dog will be and how much they can help you with your loss.

I am sorry you had to put your pet down. We had to have a cat of 17 years put down too and it is still hard we miss him his name was Star and he captivated our hearts. He brought us much laughter. I hope congrats is in order for your new puppy by now.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It really is hard to lose a pet. We lost Cricket back in March and I still miss her every day.
