When it comes to foods they will eat. Most kids you have a hard time getting them to eat their veggies. Having to disguise it or trick them into eating them. Not my kids, they love their veggies. I also wouldn't say they are picky eaters, for the eat more of a variety of foods then I do.
However, not a one of my 3 boys eats cake (including cupcakes). They simply refuse. So yes, when you throw a Birthday party and your child is the only one not eating their cake, it seems a bit strange.
My youngest one also will not eat pork of any kind, hot dogs, or the condiment of ketchup.
Do you or your children have something that they simply refuse to eat, even though it a most common food eating by over half the world?

Mine aren't really very picky, but my 12 year old is getting to a point where he doesn't want to eat half of what I cook anymore. He's becoming like his father. My husband has very limited foods he will eat. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and mac cheese are his main dishes. The 12 year old is a lot like that. However, my 7 year old claims his favorite food is broccoli.

Oh no, sounds like you have a real challenge on yours hands. Unless you just let the 12 year old eat what his dad does. Favorite food is broccoli? Wow, that is good, especially for a child.

That is frustrating! My daughter who is 5 has been becoming picky lately too. She used to eat anything, now it is like pulling teeth to get her to eat a good meal. She doesn't like noodles and rice, which is kind of strange I think.

As a kid mom would cook lots of veggies at supper so I learned to love em ... as for cake or candy I never had much of a sweet tooth, I wouldn't call your boys strange but rather smart, eating whole foods is so much healthier than eating cakes or bread.

I like you, growing up had to eat my veggies, and were they plentiful. However unlike you, I grew to hate them. Yes, I am not much for sweets either, I have to be in a certain mood for them. I agree it is kinda smart on their part. But how many you know, for there wedding when the bride and groom exchange a taste of the wedding cake, the groom would not do it?

My oldest boy never eats cake. Always made him pizza cookies or cheesecake for his birthday.
My teen son won't eat any veggies. Unless it is peas or potatoes. He hates anything healthy. My daughter tend to eat anything under the sun except any type of bread and peanutbutter.

@TexanTornado It does make it rough. As a good meal could go to waste because they decide they don't want to eat something.

Seems like you had a lot of finagling to do to feed them. It makes it a bit rough when you have multiple kids and they don't eat the same things.

@rusty2rusty I understand completely. For the most part my 3 ate the same foods, so it was a bit easier.

@TexanTornado Other than the crust, it's the whole darn thing! Since he's autistic, it's probably due to the fact that he wasn't raised with it. My husband and I were really into eating healthy back then.

@sacmom Oh ok, well that makes sense. If someone isn't accustom to something then it's harder for them.

@TexanTornado I asked him why and she said his older brother made him eat it as a joke when they were younger and it made him sick..I guess they were all together so it makes him sick to think of eating it to this day..hahahah

That is too funny. I prefer some veggies raw too, such as carrots and turnips. I can't eat these cook, the mushiness of them makes me gag.
No butter? Now that is strange. I love my butter. (Could be related to Paula Deen.. LOL) My middle son won't eat cheese either, but he'll eat Mexican food and pizza both with cheese. I never figured that out.

@LadyDuck I think it will remain a mystery. I tried asking my boys, and all they will say is, 'I just don't like it.'

In so many ways I think that is good. However, I still think a child that doesn't eat cake, is a bit strange.

@TexanTornado When they grow up, they think we're strange. It's like changing places.

Do they stop being strange when they grow up? Or is that we just don't notice it anymore.

I don't think that is strange at all. I think it is great that they are already developing healthy eating habits. I try to limit the amount of sweets and pork in my house too and try to offer more vegetables and fruits.

Well, they are all grown now, the baby is 21. So of course they can eat what they want. Now fruit is not something they got into at all, about the only fruit they will eat is grapes and watermelon.

@dashboardc33 No, they are all grown. The youngest moved back in with us, and his eating habits are a bit different then ours.

My boys eat any thing I cook.. however my oldest boy doesn't eat much when he goes to other people's houses. He always says "but the food doesn't taste like yours".
The younger one eats without making a fuss.. as he is growing up into a nice teen.
I used to have a kid who would come to my younger son's B'day parties and refuse to eat cake.. Finally I figured out that he eats plain sponge cake.. and for him it was always the plain old sponge cake with no decorations

Well, I would have to say he is smart. I am not a big fan of eating at other people's houses either. Unless it's grilling or something, or family. I found other people's food 'bland'. I like my food spicy with lots of flavor.
Is the youngest eating you our of house and home yet? (an expression)
I couldn't get my kids to eat any cake. And my middle son refused to do the wedding cake tasting at his wedding. So he got it shoved in his face instead.

I think that is great. Yes, I did the same thing with mine. I think mine started eating regular food at about 4 months old.

I really can't say anything about picky eaters, for I am a picky eater. But I do believe I eat the common foods most people eat.

Well, they picked up eating veggies more after they were grown and living on their own. Oh yes, most all kids love fast food. Now fried food, I can't say much about that, for being Southern I eat a lot of fried foods myself.
