Which kind of flowers do you prefer? The simple wildflowers that grow spontaneously in the gardens, or the more sophisticated ones? I have a preference for the wildflowers as they require a very little attention. In the pictures you can see one of the large bush of Mirabilis that grows in my garden. I do nothing, they auto seed every year. The flowers start blooming around the beginning of May until the end of September. This is an easy plant, that also have a wonderful sweet smell.

tiger claw flower
We call them 4 o' clock flowers as they bloom at that time. Actually they are planted here and so may not be called wild flowers. I too like wild flowers and I have quite a number of them. This I call tiger claw.

The flowers are so very pretty and I love wild flowers, we get so many colorful ones here in India growing wild in open spaces , some of them are really attractive and I just let them grow when one of them accidentally happens to be in my garden..There is one Blue bell shaped flower which is very beautiful !Here is another that grows in my garden , a purple one , the leaves too are attractive ..

It almost looks like the flowers came from another plant because the leaf is so large. It looks very healthy this one.

That is a beautiful plant. Nothing that grand grows wild around here. But I love the dandelions, the daisies, the buttercups, the Queen Anne's Lace, the lavender and the chicory. Dang it, I even love the goldenrod.

@LadyDuck I would love to seed the wildflowers all along the rail trail, but they come in the mid-summer and cut it all down. I guess before it can go to seed. But it won't do them any good, it grows right back.

I like the #goldenrod too when seen at the back in a #garden

The goldenrod has a nice color. The mirabilis tend to expand and take over a lot of space. I remove many plants in early spring, they produce so many seeds that I could cover with flowers all the fields of our little village... Should I?

That's beautiful! You have these in your garden? I am good at vegetable gardening, but not so good with flowers. I have no idea what any types of flowers are called or how to care for them.

Yes, those big bushes grow in my garden. I also have vegetables and very little flowers.

I have them on the outer side of my fence. They are so pretty.. but they could over run your garden if you are not careful.

@LadyDuck They have the bulbous roots which are really hard to get rid off aren't they? Are you able to keep them under control? I have to be ever so careful.

Yes, I know, at the beginning of spring, I remove most of the plants and I only keep few.

Mirabilis are the easiest flowers I have ever seen. I even have to get rid of some bushes because they grow so much.

@LadyDuck Whenever we do move and I can have a garden again, I'm going to have to see if I can find these.

I like wildflowers too, as they are easy to take care of. I am not good at gardening, and I always prefer to plant something easy to grow. Sometimes my children would pick some wildflowers from the park, and plant them in our garden. We just let them grow and enjoy the beauty of the flowers. The Mirabilis in your picture looks really good.

I love the flowers that are not very demanding. Wild flowers are easier to grow.

We have about 12,000 different wildflowers. I can't remember all their names but some are, Kangaroo Paws, Orchids, Waratah. I can remember when I was at school and we went up North where there were whole fields of wildflowers. I still have a photo somewhere and I can only just be seen as the flowers are so many and so high

The wild orchids are so beautiful. There are many wild flowers around. Even on the top of the Alps we have some very nice flowers.

They are all gone now, but the seeds are in the ground and the next year I will see plenty of new plants. I have to remove most of them or they will take all the garden.

We consider them wildflowers because they auto seed, after a few years they invade all the garden.

The seeds of the first mirabilis I planted came from the garden of my grandmother. I like to remember her looking at those flowers.

I have not many flowers in my garden, they require attention and I do not like to spend too many hours taking care of the garden.

You probably know from "that other site" that I love wildflowers. We have many on Mt. Diablo. But I don't know all of their names. I only learned this past Spring how to differentiate Indian Warrior from Indian Paintbrush.

My favorite wild flowers grow along the roads and in fields in the fall. We call them black eyed susans. They are yellow with a black/brown middle. Simple and a beautiful color. It really perks up the dreary feeling of the fall and the time change.

Those are so nice! I don't think I have a favorite flower (oh and I am so terrible with flower names as we don't really have a flower garden except for a few rose plants). But I do like unusual type ones! And I do tend to like teeny tiny flowers too - especially ones that look like stars!!
