I feel really sorry for the people of Dominica who are suffering from the effects of tropical storm Erika. A brief clip on the news last night showed a house collapsing under the pressure of storm surges. You could hear the people screaming as the house disappeared under water. Man, it was heartrending.
I suppose the effects should be felt in Jamaica by this weekend. I'm not looking forward to the loss of electricity, which is usually the case for me in the event of a storm/hurricane.
I have been through several hurricanes- Gilbert, Ivan, Gustav, Sandy etc. What about you? have you ever experienced a Hurricane? How did you cope?

I have been through one hurricane and that was Hurricane Sandy in New England, USA. It was a doozey.
I hope it will not be too severe for you friend.
It is frightening as one never knows what turn nature will take.
Especially being on an island country.

@jstory07 It is very serious and sometimes people do not realize if they have not been in it.

The projected path will see the storm moving north of Jamaica. But you never know what will happen when the winds begin to interact with the islands. My house has a concrete roof so I don't anticipate losing that. But the roads may be blocked by landslides so that could affect movement to and from my community.
It can get pretty scary, especially during the night when the winds are howling and you can't see a thing because the lights are out.
Sandy was scary especially for my daughter who was 5 years old at the time.

That sounds so scary, I hope it passes you and you have no problems. I have never experienced one but from what I've seen on the news it looks awful. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
