It is very much known to the world that India is a country of diversity. That means in India there are people of various faith, language, caste, eating habit, attire and many more. Tomorrow that means on 29th Aug 2015, India will be celebrating a festival of bond between brothers and sisters.
It’s a Hindu festival where a sister ties a decorative piece of thread on the wrist of her brother with good wishes for him; on the other hand the brothers pledge to take care of their sister throughout their life. This Hindu festival is known as Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan.
Now, I am leading you to a discussion point. I mean to say that let’s discuss:
Does any part of the world enjoy a festival which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters? What’s the name of the festival and where is it celebrated?
Let’s make this discussion quite interesting as well as a source of knowledge.

Its a shame they've got this one at the same level as all those nonsense "national" holidays that no body ever celebrates. Hopefully they can bring more recognition to it.

@cupkitties You are right Shasta. It is a mockery over here in the states these holidays I had never head of this one til now because I looked for it. It does not have the same cultural meaning. However, as a point of reference to answer the OP, I thought it relevant.

Yes, you are right that in South India this festival is not celebrated. I would say that Rakhi was never an important festival for Bengalis rather they celebrate Bhai Dooj in a big way but nowadays the youths are adopting Raksha Bandhan and celebrating it in their own way.

It is not celebrated in the sense we don't do poojas, feast and all.But we celebrate rakshabandan in karnataka here.Sister ties rakhi to brother.I have seen everyone in my state celebrate it atleast!!Great thing is even if one doesn't has a sister his friend's sister will tie him one.It creates such a magical bond.Between I didn't get which south india part you were talking about.??I guess in east I mean mizoram and all they celebrate it or not..??
