Comments which leave you confused

I write articles on other sites and on my blog/site. I love to have comments on my page. However, some comments have me flummoxed. I wonder if the person was commenting on the same thing I had written or if he/she had read it at all.
The worst part is I don't know how to respond to such a comment. I am always left scratching my head and end up saying some thing inane and thank you in response to such a comment. I have on a couple of occasions deleted such comments.. not because it was bad.. but because it had nothing at all to do with the article itself. I am not talking about spammy comments here.. I am talking real comments.
Have you ever felt this way? How do you handle them?

"i did read your article. :p"
Yes, we do encounter such situations where we don't know how to respond to the comment and at the same time don't want to appear rude but stupidity is the answer of stupidity.. I mean , " if you can't convince them ,then confuse them" ;p
Simple mantra I follow.!!!! :)
And I will have to admit that sometimes even I am into such stupidity of absurd commenting.. trying hard to improve though.. :p

I don't know, I think blue could also be described as a cheerful color. JUST KIDDING! I really don't know why people write things unrelated to our topics. If people do that when responding to my posts, I usually just let it go.

@sofssu Maybe, some people just weren't around the day the brains were passed out.

@flpoolbum Let go.. yup . but you are left wondering what on earth made the person comment so stupidly.

Sometimes I will get those bizarre comments. If I am in the mood, I'm game - I will ask them a question about their comment just to see what they say - but in most cases they don't respond again. This makes me think these people are there to make their fly-by comments - I doubt they read the post (perhaps only the title or some key words - you can tell). If it's too out there, then I just let it be - there's nothing more to say about it.

Many do not read long posts and rush to comment carelessly. I always write short posts and therefore have not come across such a situation.

@sofssu I agree with you.. But let me tell you no one has the time to read through posts that are long and therefore it is better that they do not comment rather than put irrelevent comments

@allknowing You can do that here.. but not really on serious blogs or on article writing sites where they have a requirement of 400+ words..

@allknowing I wouldn't say that when we are referencing articles or reading up material for our personal interests we do read long articles. At least I do. However as you say its better not to comment at all if you are confused or did not read it fully.

Oh gosh yes, I come across them all the time. It often leaves me wondering if the person is well. I remember I even asked this same question on one of the sites I "work" on because on that particular day it was THAT bad. In the beginning I'd ask for them to clarify, but now I just skip along to the next comment. It's just weird LOL

@tobirush Or alternatively, if you don't like or have anything to say about the subject matter, just skip onto the next one! But then some people are really only about racking up points as fast as they can to make money! It's a very bad habit.

I have had this happen, but generally it is spam. Now and again it is a real reader who is making a completely irrelevant comment. I try to find out more about it, why did they say what they said, but sometimes they won't clarify and it remains a mystery. I usually decide that one of the other of us is insane and leave it at that.

I once commented on a post where a woman shared her relationship problems, and my comment was a description of the some of the islands in my country. Oops, wrong post I couldn't delete my comment and I wonder what she thought when she read it
Sometimes I also receive strange comments that aren't related to my topic at all. I guess that some of them are mistakes like my own, but not all of them. Sometimes the person probably misunderstood the topic or the topic reminded them of something that don't make most sense (to me). My response is usually "I don't really understand what you mean, could you please explain" or something like that.

@Porcospino I think that's what happes when you multitask too much I woder what that poor woman thought of your comment.. she could have thought you were suggesting her a vacation to those islands.
I do say "I don't really understand what you mean, could you please explain' ofte times.

Sometimes I have had such comments. I also am confused as to what to say. Sometimes I wonder if I misread a post because sometimes my response doesn't get responded to. I feel kind of embarrassed.

@taramarie39 That could happen with poetry or creative writing .. when you see things fro your perspective while the writer had a totally different perspective while writing the stuff he/she wrote.

Yes, I have also been in such dubious state and failed to decide how to reply but somehow managed.

@Shampasaid I understand what you mean. Sometimes responding to these comments take longer than responding to serious comments on the subject.
