Cakes, cakes, and cakes...

So I clicked the pencil to start a discussion and was confronted with the "What's on your mind?" header.
I had some ideas what I was about to write before, but they disappeared as I spontaneously answered the question. Instead, my title shows the three things that are on my mind now.
No doubt there are so many different cakes that we know and love to eat. They can be as simple as a sponge cake to more complicated one like a multi-layered cake. The list of just widely known cakes can be long enough without adding those that are known only to specific culture or place.
Examples of those that are considered a classic cake are: Black Forest, Carrot Cake, Cheesecake, Cupcake, Fruitcake, Pound Cake, Red Velvet Cake, and so on and so forth.
Then there are also Brownies, Lamington, Pavlova, and Tiramisu. Varieties within each type of cakes are also abundant - making it almost like an endless list of cakes and hard to decide a favorite. And when it all fails, I can always just get an ice cream cake...

Hubby has a mix for a dark chocolate pound cake type of loaf cake. It has chipoltle pepper in it too. It is dense and moist and very fattening.

Now you have me thinking about cakes - ha ha! But as you would expect, yesterday we had a piece of kiddie birthday cake - and tonight we will be having another. Quite frankly I don't know how much more kiddie birthday cake I can take!!

@sishy7 Yah - it was - ha ha! Plus the girlie girl cupcakes - ugh sometimes it's just way over the top! I wrote a bit about it, but last night was a completely different one - a raceway party - so they had a "Cars" theme caked - looked homemade - but an icing layer totally melted and the cake layers shifted!! I am seriously caked out now.

Lamington is originally from Australia. It's basically sponge cake coated in chocolate sauce first then in desiccated coconut. Sometimes it comes in two halves with a layer of cream or strawberry jam in between.
Pavlova is originally from New Zealand and named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. It's something similar to meringue (softer or more moist in the center) and traditionally decorated with a topping of whipped cream and fresh fruits.

I am surprised you did not add date and walnut cake which is my favourite and I make it often. Black Forest is indeed something I will do anything to get it but I want the real one which I tasted when was I in that area a few years ago.
Now I want an ice cream cake too
