How do you celebrate Full Moon or Purnima?

In my last post I mentioned that the Hindus are to observe Raksha Bandhan/Rakhi on 29th August this year which earmarks the relationship between a brother and a sister. Here, I would specify that the festival of Raksha Bandhan/Rakhi is celebrated on a full moon day which is called Purnima in Hindi and some other Indian languages. Now, when I have mentioned about Purnima then let me tell you that the Hindus believe in arranging puja/prayer ceremony to worship the Hindu God Lord Vishnu on the day of Purnima/full moon. It is known as Satyanarayan Puja. Lord Vishnu is also referred as Narayan and He is considered as the embodiment of truth that’s why He is addressed as Satyanarayan where satya (Hindi word) means truth. Out of curiosity I want to know from non Indians that do you have any such religious festival held on the day of Purnima/full moon. Share about it and spread knowledge.
It is very much known to the world that India is a country of diversity. That means in India there are people of various faith, language, caste, eating habit,...

we don't follow a lunar calendar.. I love watching the full moon though. I love walking on beaches on a full moon night and watching the waves.. that is a celebration in itself.

@sofssu The fact is for celebration we need to feel happy at any instance and the way we spend the moment becomes a celebration in itself. It's not that every Hindu family holds a prayer meeting on full moon day but it is suggested in Hindu Almanac.

For us Catholics we have our Holy week . Usually its the last week of March or the first week of April . It will usually be when the moon is becoming full .

@Shampasaid,we observe Purnima every month just like any Hindu who follow their traditions. We have the Satyanarayan puja and katha on that day in which relatives who live in the town and neighbours are invited. On 29 th of this month was Rakshabandhan and therefore it was a special occasion. We are a traditional Hindu joint family.

@else34 Yeah, this is a very common practice among the Hindus. When some other festival falls on the full moon day then that very day becomes more auspicious.Joint family is my weakness because until marriage I also lived in a joint family.

I was born in Italy, I am Catholic. We do not have celebration or religious festivals held on the day of the full moon. The moon was beautiful yesterday night.
