A Pretty Nice Week

It was a happy but bittersweet week.
My grandson came to visit for the day and we celebrated his birthday early.
We wanted to spend time with him,the last little bit before he moves off and takes the first steps into grown up life.
Today he moves into his college dorm.It is only hours away, but a giant step towards moving away from his childhood.
I also had a visit from a niece last night,a little one just starting out in life.
It has been a while since I had a little one around and forgot about the continuous "what's dat"routine and the no, no, no, don't put that in your mouth.
I put up a bunch of tomatoes this week, diced and froze a ton of jalapeno's and ground up a passel of cayenne peppers so I feel like I accomplished something this week.
But I am feeling a little blue about my grandson not being my sweet little boy anymore.

Our son just turned 26 this week, and it was not so long ago that my parents, his grandparents, were in your shoes. I remember well how we went out to the farm to visit with my parents the night before he left for university. While everyone was still treating him like a "kid" my Dad took him aside and spoke to him like a young man. Before we left there were hugs, and my Dad then shook our son's hand, teaching him how to maintain eye contact while shaking hands. Then my Dad gave him 2 100 dollar bills all folded up, he slipped it into his hand and said nothing. When our son looked at it and said no, no, and tried to give it back to him, my Dad quietly told him to hold on to it in case of an emergency. My Dad drove me and my mother up to the university in December that year to bring our son home for Christmas. Our son had bought my Dad a fancy sweater from the university, my Dad wore it with such pride. Remember that your young grandson may be a boy in your eyes, but he thinks like a young man and will exhibit that very quickly. Its such a wonderful time in their, and our lives.
