In our country, today is the back to school day.
This morning I have seen the kids of my neighbor, dressed in their uniform, waiting for the school bus.
The summer vacations have been long, eight full weeks.
During the autumn and winter, the students only have a few days around Halloween and a week for Christmas.
Do students wear school uniforms where you live?
I think this is a good rule.
This avoid dressing code discussions among parents and teachers.

Kids maybe really don't like September, but for me it has always been one of my favourite months.

Our schools don't require uniforms. It would probably be better if they did, especially in high school because the kids try to wear such inappropriate clothing.

Lil Keith started school last week. No school uniforms here in our area. In the larger cities around us some school systems require them.

@LadyDuck In larger cities such as New York, it was introduced in order to keep kids from getting robbed of their nice clothes or name brand shoes. At one point kids were getting killed for their Nike's. Very sad situation.

@Shellyann36 Oh my goodness, what a terrible situation. Even in Italy I know that kids are robbed of their brand shoes.

Here is my experience! I lived in a small town in the southwest of China. It is an undeveloped town where most of people live by farming. Generally speaking, Children's tuition and incidentals are one of the largest expenses for a family. Yes, we have the uniforms but only one pair because most of family are not willing to afford more uniforms(the uniform is expensive than the everyday clothes ), and usually we only dress it to see the flag-raising ceremony on monday. Therefore, the students have to dress their own clothes except on monday. Thus, inevitablely, few teachers and parents will starts dressing code discussions. some teachers even tend to be strict to the students whose dressing is not good. Even though the number of that kind of teacher is very very small, it really hurts children who is not strong enough to stand these social pressure!
I really know how they feel cause I'm one of them! Hope the world can be more peaceful for children!

Thank you for sharing that. Yes, I think wearing own clothes can be quite arguable. In my country, we used to wear our own clothes in kindergarten. But, nowadays it seems like all kindergartens have their uniforms as well. I think it's also easier for the teachers to recognize the students from the school. Yes, I do hope the children will find the peace.

Yes, kids here wear school uniforms. I think it's neater and easier for the students and parents as well. Here, we start our school year in January. But, as we are homeschooling, my son has been asking to start schooling and I think he is ready, so we start our school officially tomorrow (1 September), as it's national holiday today.

In Jamaica, students at the primary and secondary and some colleges wear uniforms. I think it is a good idea for them to wear uniforms as it reduces cost for clothing as well as the number of issues with the dress code is reduced.
That being said, the challenge still remains to get the uniforms to look appropriate for school. Short skirts, tight skirts and tight pants (for the males) has been a recent problem faced by school authorities. The young men also seem to have a challenge keeping the pants at their waists. They don't seem satisfied unless their underwear (bad colored or not) is showing.

In Greece, where I live, there are not any uniforms that someone is obliged to wear at school, students decide their own clothing style.Although, sometimes this freedom can cause frustration among teachers and students, because teachers are "old school" and they prefer a more serious style rather than the mini skirts and the torn jeans that we wear. But, in the end of the day nothing bad happens, except some arguements about how much better the previous generation was over the new, or the vice versa.

Two of my grandchildren go to a Catholic school, they wear uniforms. Most public schools here don't have uniforms only private.

In my state the kids went back to school last week. Some of them seemed very happy to be going back and some not.
