Just about every fan of old movies loves "Casablanca." From those memorable quotes to the electric chemistry between Rick and Ilsa to the immortal "As Time Goes By." Let us know some of your favorite parts of the movie. It doesn't even have to be a single scene. One of the things I love the most about the movie is how Bergman's eyes sparkle like a diamond in every single appearance. Favorite scenes: 1. Battle of the anthems. The struggle of good vs evil, freedom vs oppression all summed up by singing two songs. 2. The short, funny bit when the Nazis force Capt. Renault to close down the club: Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds? Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [a croupier hands Renault a pile of money] Croupier: Your winnings, sir. Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much. [aloud] Captain Renault: Everybody out at once! It never fails to crack me up.

I love every scene of that movie, but the battle of the anthems is my favorite. Being European and having lived in France for 25 years, this means a lot.

@LadyDuck Most of the extras in the movie were actual European WWII refugees, so that really added to the emotion of the scene. For the German song, the director used an older patriotic song instead of the more widely used Nazi party song, so that he wouldn't have to pay royalties and give money to Nazis.

@johnm42 That was a great idea, not to give money to the Nazis.
