Ok, it's time to get down to some serious business, and find out what's cooking?
Some people have a specific dish they cook for most all occasions. A signature dish you can call it. A get together with fiends, a pot luck picnic, etc. I never had one favorite dish, that I cook for everything.
I enjoy cooking and what ever I am hungry for at the time, that is what I will cook. It then becomes my favorite dish for that meal. However, I get more enjoyment out of cooking something that I know everyone will like.
Do you have a favorite dish you like to cook?

I love to cook and eat. Though today I cannot eat everything that I can cook, so I have restrained my cooking to cooking what I eat
I dont have anything I can call a "Signature Dish" but I am told by a few that I cook Noodles-Rice real good and then next up is Fish. Personally, among the dishes I cook today, I love tomato soup.

Oh why not? Due to medical reasons?
Ah so although you don't have a 'signature dish' per se, seems people have made them for you with the dishes they like that you cook. I like tomato soup in the winter time, with saltines dipped into it.

@TexanTornado Yes, more so because of the Ulcerative Colitis that I have. I have loved the clean tomato soup from as early as I remember. I can spend months having it with rice for lunch.

@thesids Awww that is a shame that you can't eat the things you enjoy. It does seem that you have came to terms with it, and eat the thing that you can, and still get enjoyment from it. I have never eaten tomato soup with rice. I might have to try that.

I havent been able to purchase the right instruments for the Kebabs but I would love to prepare them at least once. Which ones do you prepare - in Indian context we have mutton and chicken kebabs. I can experiment with Chicken if I had the right rods. We had one set of rods when I was a kid as mom has a flair to keep experimenting and cooking. But over time, as we did not make use of them regularly, no one remembers where they are packed up.

That is great. I always enjoyed cooking things people seemed to want me to cook. Like Gumbo, I have to cook that every time, my step daughter visits.
Oh you do know, I will be coming to visit soon?? So cook everything that is on the top of the list, so I can eat.

I cook whatever i just have the urge to do..whether I have the ingredients usually helps me decide what to make, but it never tastes as good as someone else making it!!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the ingredients. I am the same way, it just depends what I am hungry for or sounds good at the time. I think that is 90% of people who cook their own food. I know, it is for me a lot of the time. Especially when it's a dish, I cook for 4-5 hours, when it's time to eat, I simply don't even want to smell it anymore.

@thesids I agree for the most part. Hence my comment to @rosekitty, but if it's something I been craving, then it tastes that much better by time I finish cooking it.

One thing I have always wanted to cook but never had the courage to experiment - steamed fish. First, I did not know how to do it. Then when I read one online, I experimented, but maybe I got the wrong kind of fish - it was just all so messed up. My wife does not know how to do it - and at times I wonder if she is actually a bengali
(for those who do not know, Bengali are the people from West Bengal, a state in India and are well known for their Sweet Dishes and Sea Food - specially fishes and prawns)

I like to cook for friends, however I have not a specific dish, and I rarely serve two times the same dish. If I had to give the name of a favorite dish, it would be probably a clafoutis, a kind of cake made with cherries. I am not good for pastries, but I learned this recipe from my mother when I was a kid, and it has a sentimental value for me. I made clafoutis with other red fruits too. Actually we have "cornouilles" (the fruit of "cornus mas", a small Mediterranean tree growing in the woods) and I will probably make a clafoutis with them.

See that is me, I like to make different things at different times never making the same thing if I am gonna share it. Sorta like when going out some where, you don't want to wear the same outfit over and over to the same place.
Oh I am so glad that you explained the food, cause I wouldn't have had the 1st clue as to what it was. It does sound good. So basically you bake a cake and put the fruit on top of it? Or do you put the fruit in the cake batter itself? Oh now see, it being sentimental to you, makes it that much more special.

@TexanTornado You drop the fruits in the batter just before baking the cake. Here a generic clafoutis recipe if you want to try. It is very easy to do and a good French cake.

@topffer Sounds interesting enough. Oh why thank you kindly for the recipe. I will have to try it, and say it's a famous french dish.

I just cooked a simple lunch for my husband this morning, so that he doesn't need to drive out for lunch. I am not good at cooking, but we always cook rice and fry vegetables, as it's simple and it's what we like to eat. I also like to cook vegetable soup lately as my children like to drink coup. I just cut any vegetables we have at home and boil them into soup. I like to cook simple dishes.
I am glad my husband and children are not too picky, but this may be why I never improved my cooking skills.

@TexanTornado Not to blame them, but rather appreciate them for accepting who I am and what I can offer.
Some of my friends who didn't know how to cook at all, but now became good cook, as they always have to prepare delicious food, especially for dinner. Though they are good at cooking different styles of food, I don't envy them, as they are always stressful to think what to cook for dinner. They always think I am lucky to just have to prepare simple food.
Of course, whichever way is good too.

Oh you don't have to be a gourmet cook, to cook the things in which you all can enjoy. It sounds like you are capable of doing that, which is great.
Oh so you blaming your husband and kids for not broaden your horizon with your cooking? I don't blame you, no need for you to take the blame.

@kaka135 I understand completely. I think they actually rather smart. I mean if you think about it. They would rather you fix a simple meal for them, instead of them having to do it themselves.
I never stress over having to cook a decent meal. For me, it isn't about how I cook, but what I am hungry for. I get tired of eating the same things over.

I make macaroni and cheese for gatherings. It's something everyone seems to really like when I make it. I don't necessarily enjoy making it though, lol.

@TexanTornado Nah, I don't enjoy cooking at all anymore. I did for awhile and tried a bunch of new recipes, and the mac cheese turned out great. But I sort of lost interest in it and now I find it a chore.

@katsmeow1213 Ah, ok. I do understand what you saying, when it becomes a chore it does tend to lose it's appeal. I myself have never followed recipe, I have tried a few times, but have never followed through with it. I like things my way.

I once baked a Rum Cake that went over really well lol. It was "goodie day" at the school that I volunteered at and they really liked the Rum that had soaked into the cake. It was devoured by the first recess. ;)

Oh, I love rum cake, however I have never baked one. I am always worried I will put too much rum and the cake would just be a soggy mess. I see you live in the states, so you can bake me one, and ship it to me. Oh no, I wouldn't mind at all.

@TexanTornado Unfortunately I do have a sweet tooth. I think even if I didn't, I would still love to bake. I made a lot of stuff for Christmas one year to give out to friends and didn't even taste anything.

I too don't have any signature dish but i love cooking. And i love cooking nonveg. Though sometimes i do think that its better to go out to dine than to cook with so much efforts . But thats only sometime not always . I prefer cooking at home .

Sorry I have no clue what nonveg is. I enjoy going out to dine, once in a while. I much prefer home cook meals. That is just my preference.
