Mission to Mississippi

United States

With the recent disaster in the Philippines with Typhoon Yolanda it made me remember back when the United States had been hit by a disaster called hurricane Katrina the hit the southern states along the gulf of Mexico. During this time a bunch of us men from our local churches were asked if we would be interested in go to Mississippi on a missions trip to help rebuild some of the houses. This was a chance of a life time to be able to help those in need. After fifteen hours on the road we reached Mississippi and toured the Gulf coast looking at all the damage done by this category five hurricane. It was unbelievable the destruction left behind by Katrina. People were homeless, they lost everything and where sleeping on the streets and in their homes. What was left of them. Some had F.E.M.A. trailers at that time and this trailers were like sleeping in a confined space with their families. My heart went out to these people as it does for the people of the Philippines that were hit by Yolanda. I can not imagine going through what they had to go through. We helped to rebuild as much as we could for the week that we were down there for. It just seemed overwhelming the work that needed to be done. They said that they would be rebuilding for about ten years to come. I wish that I had ten years to give them as I do with the people in the Philippines, or even just one week. The people there were so grateful to see the church step up and get help to them quickly with none of the red tape as with the government with food, water, materials and labors. I am so grateful I had this opportunity to help these victims, and wish I could do the same for the victims of Hurricane Yolanda. What can you do to help those around you or far away? Prayer is very powerful, if there is nothing else you can do then pray for victims and there families. Article By: Butch

You put a very human face on a news story and do make a big difference in the world with rolled up sleeves. May God bless you.

@Butchcass4 I try to be a good person though often I'm not. Perhaps I will find the right thing if I pray for it.

That is totally awesome. Many times, if your not already hooked up with a good bible believing church. Getting hooked up with a church who is mission based they can help you fulfill your dreams. Baptist churches, Methodist churches, most of your Protestant churches. You can call the churches in your area and ask if they are mission based, do they send people out on missions trips. Just a thought
