It is widely used in Indian sub continent as a frying medium. It is prepared by boiling cream of milk from either cow or buffalo. This is rich in fat and most of the Indian sweets have this is an important ingredient.

@writerjo - My husband always gets on me about this but I have a bad habit of not eating breakfast when I wake up. If he gets up to fix him something he always prepares enough for both of us. My breakfast is whatever he makes for us!

@cmoneyspinner Problem Solved . It is very nice to hear that you take what your husband prepare whatever . I think Your Husband is also like me sometimes . When my spouse is in tired mood . I will prepare something for both us . What to do . We have to love our spouse what God gave to us .. That is what God too likes and expects from us .

I think I would probably like this. I like many of the flavors you are including, like cumin. In a way it reminds me of something we eat called grits.

I have not tried eating Ven Pongal, however, your discussion gave me an opportunity to know about it. It seems to me like Upma or North Indian Kichdi, however, its ingredients are different from Upma.
I understand it is a light dish and could be taken any time. I love South Indian dishes be it Idly, Vada or Dosa or Upma (we prepare it at home also). These are soft dishes and are not difficult to cook and are easily digestible and filling also.
You are lucky because your wife takes due care of your food.
