Unusual Eating Places

I've heard about restaurants with unusual concepts where diners would have a unique experience while eating in one of them. There is one where the tables are suspended up in the air, another where diners are eating while dangling in a dense forest of trees, and there is also a restaurant for dining in the dark experience. There are more involving high-altitude dining, unusual places like inside a helicopter or a train, and other unique outdoor dining.
I've never been to any of the more adventurous ones of those unique places. I've been to a high-altitude restaurant, but it was simply on the highest level of a skyscraper with a 360 degree view of the city. I've been to a jungle-themed restaurant where I sat on a swing, but it wasn't in real forest.
As for the most adventurous outdoor dining experience I've ever been was probably at Jimbaran beach (Bali) as pictured. I had freshly cooked seafood while dipping my toes in the sand only few feet away from the beach. I imagine it works only when the weather cooperates with beautiful evening under the stars...

I had read about one that I might be interested in - assuming I have enough money to travel to their country - it is a hotel/restaurant inside the sea or ocean (I forget which one). They have an elevator to pick you from the surface of the sea and you go down. At the bottom, they have an all glass ambiance and you can watch fishes etc outside as you have your eatery.
for the record- I am scared of water reservoirs.

Sids you have just reminded me of a place I had dinner at in Lakewood, Ohio. It is a restaurant where it is mostly glass walls and when you are seated you look over onto Lake Erie and you can see fish swimming around. It was amazing and beautiful. A once in a lifetime experience.

@sishy7 I have only been in this restaurant for lunches and there were no children. A hen living in the center of Paris is something rare and it was a kind of funny decoration arousing curiosity. I went there with some coworkers just because of the animals.

I have never been to an interesting restaurant. I wouldn't be against going to one, but we don't have any around here, and I'm too poor to travel lol. Maybe one day. I mean the most interesting I've been to was when we had this place in my town where it was set up with street signs and had a kind of garage theme to it, and they brought the check in a very old book. Unfortunately the food we got that day wasn't all that great, which is probably why they closed.

Not sure if I can concentrate on finishing my food if the place is scary.

That one in the picture looks amazing! One of these days I plan to go to a new restaurant here in town, their concept is science laboratory. Everything from the decor, menu names, and utensils are lab-themed so I think that would be very cool.

Omg yeah I read about that restaurant. Saw the pictures too. Not my choice for a restaurant though.

The most unusual place I have ever dined at was in a restaurant that was once a Church. Of course there was nothing of the church inside just that when you looked at the building on the outside you could tell it was once a church building.
I had no wonderful experience like you describe, maybe someday.

I can't think of any seriously unusual eating places I've been too - I'm all about the food - ha ha! We've been to Rainforest Cafe - where it's dark and rainforest like - with rainforest animatronics all around - and even a thunderstorm every 15 or so minutes - kids love it!

@rebelann Oh my gosh . . . you found one of @sishy7 's older posts . Oh - and looks like marcyaz had also liked my comment . . . oh I miss them both!
I remember there were water areas . . . can't remember if there were little waterfalls/fountains - but it sounded like water falling. There were animatronics all over, so probably no sprays of water (but that could be cool!).
Yah, it was fun - kinda pricy though for what it was - but you can pretend to be in the jungle with the animals. So answer sishy7 's question which I didn't do , the only one in CA now is at this outlet mall in Ontario, CA - about an hour and a half drive from here. There used to be one in Downtown Disney (free area for shopping end eating next to Disneyland) but it closed.

Not sure about eating upside down, etc. I like to dine in some comfort. We have a Mongolian restaurant in Manchester where you pick the raw ingredients you want, in the quantities you want, and take them to the chefs who cook them before your eyes into the meal - you can go back as many times as you like in the night. It is very impressive.

@sishy7 sounds like a very similar arrangement though the Mongolian place won't let customers touch the very hot grill for safety reasons - it often gives off sheets of flame.

@arthurchappell That's understandable. I guess the Korean Barbecue is just for easy, quick and light grilling. The raw meat and other ingredients are prepared in thin cuts and small pieces.

I think there's a restaurant in Phoenix that rotates so diners can enjoy a view of the entire city while they eat.
A little closer to me is the Verde Canyon Railroad, which offers special events like a Tequila Sunset Limited train that features tequila tastings and Mexican appetizers. There's also the Grand Canyon Railway, which has a dining car on at least some of their seasonal offerings.

There was a jungle themed place here in our mountainous town. It closed down however. I do not think it caught on, however there are no shortage of unusual eateries here.
The place you are describing in Bali is world class..so lovely

@TiarasOceanView It is lovely but more of a casual ambiance. Not quite a place for formal or dress up dinner. It could be for a romantic date, but would not be easy to find a quiet, candle light table just for two as the place is usually packed on beautiful nights.

@Marcyaz I think it was for a while Marcy in the malls, but those places come and go so fast here. There has to be the most places to eat here I have ever seen in any town.
