Outdoor cinemas are very popular in my country. They are open from June till early September and they are projecting movies only after 9 pm. This is my last chance for this summer and I am going to watch the movie "Solace" with Anthony Hopkins. I love the setting in open-air cinemas, even though they don't have the best sound system. They give me the feeling of freedom because I can look up to the sky and see the stars during the movie. Because of the sound restrictions, not all movies are appropriate for this kind of cinemas. I prefer cute romantic comedies in general but this time I decided to watch something different! Do you like to watch movies in outdoor cinemas in the summertime?

They have some of those movie showings outdoors in my town too besweet. I have not been to those. People sit around on the grass to view it. I have been to what we call drive in movies here many years ago. It was a favorite activity of teenagers when I was a teenager.

They have camping chairs set up in the cinema here, and a few tables at some rows. I've never been to a drive in projection, it must be really nice!

Several years ago there was a temporary outdoor cinema in my city. My ex and I went there. It was hot outside and it was a very nice experience. As far as I know there aren't any permanent outdoor cinemas in Denmark, but I like the idea a lot.

The outdoor cinemas in greece are owned by the local municipaluties. They rent them to private companies who run them every summer, so their locations are permanent. I think they should be more popular worldwide!

Yes, we went to one last month. They were showing a triple feature, and it was cheaper than movie theaters, so it was great!

It sounds great that you can pay less and enjoy the beutiful setting in a open theater. Unfortunately here the prices are similar since they are very popular.

I love them, though we have no regular one in my home city. They ran a free one in Manchester a few years back, changing the movies each week and the atmosphere was great.

This sounds wonderful as well! I would definitely want to watch a movie there. I can see that you are from Manchester, I have visited your city a few times and I liked it! I was a student in Sheffield for a year.

Open air cinemas remind me my vacation time in Italy when I was young. There are no outdoor cinemas here in Switzerland, the weather is not really appropriate.

I imagine that you have a lot of rain over there, outdoor cinemas are very much dependant on weather conditions. I am glad that you liked them as well, I am very excited every time I am watching films outdoors!

@LadyDuck Same happens with open theaters, if there is rain, the events are cancelled and we can get a refund. Rainy climate doesn't offer the proper circumanstances to start outdoor businesses like theaters anc cinemas.

@besweet Here in the south we have not a lot of rain in summer, but the nights are always fresh and unpredictable. A thunderstorm can easily spoils the evening, even if it only last an hour.

I remember when outdoor movies were big in our area U.S.A. But you don't see them anymore for some reason. I miss them.

They are a great activity for summer nights. I like them because you can take your drink as well and have more freedom and more space comparing to the indoor seats. They should come back to being popular in the USA as well.

People got used to the comfort of the multiplex cinemas I think. But open air cinemas are simple and fun, and they are perfect for the summer!
