Weird Social Media Requests?

I don't use my Google+ account much. I have a few family and friends on there, but they don't use it much, either. So, I am always surprised when I receive a request to add someone to my Google+ circles.
I got a strange one recently, though, and it's really hard to figure out. I didn't know why this strange man was asking to add me, so I had a look at his profile, and then his friends. Could it be we had mutual friends?
It was then that I noticed a strange pattern. About 75% of his friends had the same first name as I have. The other 25% were named Tracey. Those were the only two first names that appeared on his friends list. And his circles consisted of 100% females. Add to that the fact that this guy appears in military camouflage in his photo and I find it all a bit disconcerting. Needless to say I didn't add him.
What is the weirdest friend request you've ever received on social media?

That's weird. I think there's something not normal about that guy. Perhaps she has some obsession with girl using that name? Or perhaps he loves the girl and will use his list to share his flame? Not sure though
The weirdest social media request was from person who use my friend's identity and photos. I accept her friend request because I don't know it was someone else pretend to be her. Even that person added all of her friend. After 1-2 weeks, my friend update status saying it's not her after her friend caught it and report it to her

Now that is indeed strange. I had a guy request to be friends for a Facebook game. Come to find out. he doesn't even play the game. He was trying to scam me by hitting on me. As he was from another country. He was quickly blocked.

I have seen people join groups set up for Facebook games, just to get a list of people who play it, then try to add them all even though they don't play the game. They usually spam the group with their own business or something. Now I check profiles to make sure they play the game.

I got spammed a lot on Linked in. Many people with a similar last name like John Juarez, Jane Juareze, Allejandro Juarez and so forth at the same time.

I'm not a really social person, so I normally don't spend much time for social media. But I do opened several social media account out of curiosity and yeah, sometimes I received friend request out of nowhere from someone who don't even have any mutual connection to me which I usually ignored. When I was a teenager I liked making new friend and was always excited to received new friend request or anything similar. However, nowadays there are a lot of identity theft and other fraudulent activities that we need to be wary of. So if I share some personal information within my profile, I'd rather to only let those I know be in the circle. But if I don't, I don't mind to have as much join in.

I haven't, but my mom has! It was a guy from abroad, from the picture appeared to be in his 40's (a lot younger than my mom) . All of his contacts were females, around my mom's age and all from my country. It was weird and we were convinced it was a scam.

I had friend requests from people who have the same surname with me. My surname sounds international when written in english so I got a few requests from other countries through the years. I haven't accepted either.
People are looking for connections everywhere. This profile that you've mentioned sounds suspicious indeed. Also, why would you like to connect with some stranger who you're never going to interact with?
