What Do You Do When People Stare At You?

Somehow I think I am prone to people staring at me. If I am in a general everyday crowd I would stand out because of how I look even if I don't do anything unless I wear common clothes and hide my presence. And yet there are still situations that make me hate when I get stared at, even after I've "hidden" myself.
Don't get me wrong I don't look weird or anything, I just don't look like a typical Filipina that's all. I don't have blue skin or wings or anything like like that. I don't even color my hair anymore!
Anyway, we all know it's not polite to stare at strangers right? But sometimes there are just people who don't seem to care and just stare for very long until I stare back at them. I'm okay with babies buy older kids and adults... that's another story.
How about you? Ever had a staring contest with a stranger? Not the love struck kind of stares okay.

I can't do that when in public transportation though. Attracts attention from everyone in the jeepney. Maybe if I was on a bus or in an MRT but I rarely get stared at when on a bus. *Thank God!*

If I notice someone staring. I tend to look at them back with a smile and wave a friendly gesture. they will either look away making me look like I am waving to myself. or they acknowledge me.

Oh that's very nice of you. I don't think I can bring myself to smile at strangers who stare at me but that's something to consider.

I have found at times someone staring at me so I stare back one time a couple came up to me and he said you look a lot like my mother who has passed on could I hug you. I looked at my husband and he shook his head yes so I let this fellow hug me, he had tears in his eyes and his wife said he really, really misses his mother. Seems they were so close that he had a very difficult time when she passed on.
In this instance i understood why he was staring but for those who stare for no reason just Stop It Right Now.

Aw that's a really touching story... if that happened to me maybe I'd do the same.
And yeah, those who stare for no reason should stop doing so!

Aw, that's really touching. I'm sure he really missed his mom a lot, not everyone would do that to a stranger.

Aw shucks... thanks for saying that.
I try not to glare at them unless they are really staring for far too long.

Oh gosh I hate it. I can probably tolerate it the first few seconds but if the person still continues staring I'd just ask if there's anything wrong. The only staring contest I would have is with a baby.

Yeah it's not a godd feeling when someone stares at you right? Maybe I'd start asking them if staring back at them doesn't work. Usually when I stare back they look away. Rarely do I get into a staring contest.
But babies staring are definitely cuuuute!

@cahaya1983 True! Babies are just so cute even when they stare at you.

@owstalaga Haha yeah I think most people would quit staring if we give them the what's-your-problem look. With babies, they usually win the contest.

I was at a sandwich shop down near Cal State Northridge where I went to college, and there were these two younger women there. I kept sneaking a glance at one of them, because she looked like the daughter of my high school PE teacher. Then I hear her tell her friend, "that woman keeps staring at me". Oops. I was going to ask her, but not after that. I just averted my gaze, and pretended I didn't hear her.

I usually stare back and if that doesn't work, I usually give the middle-finger salute to the 'lucky' stranger.

Whoa... I can never do that. Maybe I should wear sunglasses all the time or something.

@owstalaga LOL!!!
Skip the sunglasses! Just make sure you have a good pair of running shoes on so if the one staring chases after you, you can run fast!

Well I stare at them too. My thought is like "wanna have some stare contest huh?! Bring it on!" And that's it I'm in a fight mode haha and then the person that was staring at me would just burst into laughter, others will just go and walk away harhar!

When I don't feel like staring back at them I just ignore them but I get irritated so I stare back eventually.

@Haveyouseenthatgirl hahaha, I think I did that one time with one person some years ago. They kept staring even if I kept ignoring them so I glared at them. That did make them turn away like they did nothing wrong. Psh.
I forget if it was a he or a she.
