Hi everyone,
I'm doing a research article on social media platforms. The goal is to identify the "glue" or "gel" element that keeps an online community together. So I am interested in hearing about your experience of myLot especially around these areas:
1) How often do you visit myLot?
2) What is unique about your experience with this community?
Thanks a lot for helping me with this.

Don't look anymore. When this site stopped to pay members 2 years ago, about 99% left. Now that it pays again, many old members are coming back. The "glue" element at myLot is earning a little pocket money.
For your questions :
1) I am here quite everyday.
2) It is a cohesive and friendly community : if we see new members everyday, those staying will stay for years. I have made some real friends here, and we kept contact through emails and Skype when myLot became a desert.

Thanks topffer! This really helps, I am very intrigued in the exodus 2 years ago. Thanks for the lead, I will look into this some more. I stumbled across myLot as I was searching for other major online communities and this one strike me as unique in that it pays members for interactions.
I will also look into Bubblews and compare the difference. Thanks again!

What happened two years ago? Do you know what were the circumstances that lead them to not pay ?

I am a myLot addict. When I first joined myLot, I had a maid, and my job was such that I had to sit up late in the night for downloading stuff. Now, most of it comes in during the day time. I waited for my good friends to return and since yesterday, I feel alive. I hope this does not mean I am going to suffer in my work, but for the moment, this is what fun is all about.

@Drosophila ..I was looking for online working sites, and I came across myLot. Once I found folks here, and let me tell you it can have a therapeutic effect when you let others know what you feel or think in the day instead of stocking it all up and pouring it out in front of a shrink who takes money for listening to you. lol

@vandana7 Lol, one of my friend says, all shrinks do are asking you questions like, "why do you think this?" and "how do you feel about that". Something you can do by just asking yourself...

I am here almost everyday.Mylot is unique in that there are people from all over the world interacting with each other, leaning about each others culture, and earning a little bit of spending money in the process. When mylot stopped paying two years ago, I left, and I am glad that I came back, as it is great to see old frineds again, chat up a storm and earn.

Like so many onliners I am here ..... and on other sites ..... to earn a few extra pennies and in so doing I get to meet all kinds of people from all over the world, it's always interesting to read about someone else's views on everyday life and it's fun ..... for me at least ..... to share the pictures I take ..... ..... ..... as for glue, there really is none, if you check on Bubblews it seems everyone left just because of the money, no care about the people they'd left behind.

myLot and Bubblews are different sites. There is no messaging system at Bubblews, and not a lot of interaction like here. Even the possibility to comment on the profile page was removed by the staff. I never considered it like a social media site, but as a writing site.

@rebelann I had no link in my profile. Some old friends from here were dropping me a phrase when we had comments in our profile. After they disappeared it was more hazardous to communicate through comments in a post, as I have never been very active at Bubblews, and no more active since the beginning of this year.

I visit every day. Mylot always paid. Members will help if you a person asks for help. It is reasonably safe in that people support respect for all. There is some flexibility as to how a person can use the platform.
For example, "members are required to write a specific number of words on a topic that has not already been taken" etc. - does not exist as a rule.
Also people can have serious discussions or silly ones.

@Drosophila The opposite can be true as well. In a community you can always find things you don't like much and so that can repel a person. I guess that is why there are filters like blocking to enable a person to find what interests them and ignore what doesn't.

That's true, flexibility & support are the positive behaviour that encourages people to stick around.

@Wendy,all I can say is,I love Mylot. It's a place that transforms learning, earning and making friends a fun. It's a platform where you are never alone and friendless.A place where you can never get bore.Everything is so great here.I have been a mylot lover since the days when we had the old mylot.I had to leave it reluctantly then when it stopped paying.Thereafter I was hopping from one site to another. Now mylot is back, and so am I.I was and am a regular visitor of mylot despite lack of time and a very tight schedule. The uniqueness of the site,in the opinion of a non native English speaker with an imperfect knowledge of the language is,it allows people like me to participate here. That's the beauty of Mylot.
