Have a carrier bag whether you want one or not

I realized why supermarkets keep putting my shopping in flimsy transparent carrier bags. It is so the security people can easily see what I bought, just in case I try to secrete a few extra items in that haven't been paid for. It's so nice to feel untrusted when I shop. I usually have my own canvas bag and shops are supposed to be cutting down on how many carrier bags they give out, but even when I say 'It's alright, I have a bag here' my shopping goes into a carrier bag anyway. I do reuse the carrier bags, mostly for collecting waste paper when I'm writing. I like to think of them as disposable attaché cases.

When I was living in Scotland I noticed that the shops always gave me a carrier bag. I am not used to that. In Denmark you have to buy a carrier bag if want one. We are allowed to bring our own bags if we prefer that.
