We Are Here to Discuss, Not Do Blog Posts (to get more response)

I may get some flack here because of this but hear me out... I like how myLot is a place where people discuss about lots of topics (because it is indeed a discussion board) instead of seeing every day updates in people's lives like a blog site.
However I'm seeing posts that aren't really for discussion but more of a blog post and what they do every day that sometimes there's no point to discuss or talk about at all. Okay granted people are free to comment anything on blogs but for me it takes away the point of myLot being a discussion board.
Also I am seeing people posting a sentence or two asking questions they know the answer to or are fairly easy to answer. Like asking what to do with something without explaining why they are asking about it. Asking where to buy this or that and writing nothing else. I mean, c'mon right?
I've reported a few of those I see that don't follow the guidelines. Haven't checked if they did remove those I reported. I really just prefer to keep myLot an enjoyable place where members get to thrash out or converse about a lot of stuff. Plus if it's a discussion, we get to respond more and our cents pile up without us noticing it.
Anyone noticing these two trends too? Do you like any of it or not?

I don't recall responding to discussions like that, but I must say, if it is something that I can relate to, I will respond. I only respond to intersting topics, no matter what the topic is, but religion or politics of course. I agree that we need to keep this a discussion board, and not a blog.

I also only respond to interesting topics and myLot has a lot of them! As for blog posts I see here, I don't bother with them at all.

@rosekiss Ah, I guess I'm just seeing a lot of newbies posting blogs instead of discussions. True, I wouldn't want to lose my cents just because their posts get deleted.

@owstalaga i think generally though, there aren't all that many blog posts. I have seen users post a question though and nothing else. I don't respond to those either, as more than likely, they will be deleted anyway.

I mostly avoid those posts. I know what you are referring to and indeed, this is a discussion place which it is sometimes a hard concept to grasp for some.

Yeah me too, I just don't respond to those kind of posts because there's just no point to discuss at all!

@owstalaga Mostly there is no question to it and just a statement to get you to visit a site or what have you.

Some people don't ask a direct question, but it is still possible to discuss the topics that they write about.I will respond to the discussions without questions if there is something to discuss. Some people simply describe their everyday activities, and it is hard to respond to those those posts because there isn't much to discuss.
I don't usually respond to "discussions" that consists of one of two sentences. I want some more background information. I would like to know why they ask that question and I would like to know their own thoughts about their topic.

Yeah I see some who don't ask a direct question. I comment on some of them too but if it's just everyday blah I skip it.

I have a tendency to write a lot when I make a post about something that is on my mind. By no means, am I trying to make a blog post, which I feel should be mandated at a blog site to begin with. My problem is that I can go very in-depth into what I am writing about, and that somehow, someway, I can entice others to think about what I write and hopefully add their own personal thoughts and feelings. I suppose though, since these days not many enjoy reading a long and thorough discussion starter, I will have to start writing my posts differently. Personally, I prefer reading and responding to lengthy posts. It gives me more to respond with.

Yeah I tend to write a lot in some posts too and I try to shorten them but it just stays long. And when they are too long I notice only a few respond to it. Oh well.

@owstalaga Lol, yes. Once I get started I can't seem to stop. Someone once had a fit because I typed up a lengthy response. It wasn't as if I forced them to read my post. I suppose it stems from being a writer though.

@owstalaga I pick and choose too what I want to read and post into. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something deep and involved in terms of discussion. Other times I like it easy going maybe even some humor. Yes, some will.

Yes, i haven't noticed this trend. I was questioning it a bit myself the other day. I was told to ignore those type of discussions as eventually they will be removed for not following the guild lines. If you ever see me do. Please let me know and I will do my best to fix it or delete it myself.

I also ignore those kinds of posts otherwise they will grow and multiply.
Oh don't worry, I guess if you only write one or two posts like that it's enough but if all of them are like that (like what some newbies are doing...) well now...

I've seen somebody only posted link with no comment or no intention to really start a discussion. It seems she is not someone new here as I saw number beside his name, so I just leave.

@owstalaga Actually because I know her before on other site and she was a good friend. By reputation, I think she's not new in Mylot too, so it put me in confussion to report her. Perhaps I will message her when I see this again

I don't mind longer blog entries. If they are interesting enough I will read them. The 'I had sausages for breakfast' style comments are of zero interest to anyone.

Yeah if the blog post catches my interest it might prompt me to comment. Otherwise the indirect question within a blog post is what makes me respond. If there's none then I move on to the next discussion instead.

Yeah that's how it should be. A discussion's initial post can either be long or short as long as it is still able to make other people respond and join in on the topic.

@owstalaga That apart, discussions are inter active, blogs seem more like a one way communication. You have to like or lump, what ever the fare might be posted on a blog.

Yeah I've noticed a few of those. I'm guessing that they're not aware of the guidelines, probably didn't even bother to read them. I usually don't respond to such posts. I prefer participating in discussions where I can give my own opinion as well as get to know what other people think about the topic as well. It doesn't have be intellectual, but I like thought-provoking ones.

This has always been the case, as far as I remember. Some people seem to have difficulty understanding what is meant by a discussion. Others just choose to do their own thing, regardless. If something is within the Guidelines, then it's allowed; if it's not, it will disappear. Different people have different styles and people will use the site to serve whatever purpose suits them best.
Actually, MyLot is not just one community, it is composed of many different groups, depending on people's interests. The boundaries are very hazy, of course, but you'll find that there are people who stick mostly to certain topics and rarely respond to topics outside their interest. Inevitably, you will find that there are different friendship groups, too.

Two or three days back I came across a one liner here.It was just a simple question. It made me wonder whether it was what we call discussion. Then I liked it and put a comment below. The comment I put was at least ten times bigger than the 'discussion.'I would like to ask you a question. What is the difference between a discussion and a blog post?I don't have any blog.Hence the question.

Of course a one liner is not a discussion but just a question.
Well a blog post is just like telling everyone what you did and such. Not asking for anyone's opinion but only giving anyone a story or slice of your life. Think Wordpress or Blogger. Those are blogging websites.
A discussion is where you interact and ask people for their opinion on certain subjects. Like if you are on a forum where you post something and lots of people interact with you and talk about the topic you posted. It's not a debate but it's something everyone gets involved in rather than just sympathizing on what happened to someone in a day or something like on a blog.

I think that we can put our opinions on the site and ask the members to give their opinion. I also think that this is a place for idea exchange also. Where can I read the guidelines/rules?

I just think there is no point responding if it's a blog post, this is myLot where people discuss things more than anything. A blog post is more of a one way street rather than encouraging an interaction with lots of people.

i reckon those folks 've no desire fer conversation 'r perhaps see it as one-sided 's alright? i dunno, i've run 'cross a few myself in my short time here that 've not done a thingy to evoke e'en a response. which is odd fer me, coz i'm purty danged wordy. ran into that 't the 'other place' - techy writers 'd a hard time 'f comprehendin' that their tutorials didn't get much response. how could they? they'd laid it all out so well there were no queries to be asked. i don't get the one liners neither?
but, i reckon to each their own 'n that's what makes the world so colorful - folks 'n their perceptions 'f right 'n wrong.

Well it's just so much better to see a post you can discuss and share answers on rather than a one way conversation as you said.
