You Can't Please Everyone

I had planned to make country fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy tonight, but I buy exactly enough cube steak for the three of us that eat it and no more than that. Unexpectedly, we have a guest. My son's friend is an extra mouth so no steak tonight. He is a picky eater and I am forgiving of that because I had one of my own and I am used to trying to work around weird food dislikes. He doesn't like cheese, so no macaroni and cheese, which would be easy. He likes several things I could make, but it's too darn hot to bake a chicken pie or make home made pizza. So, I have decided to make sloppy joes. Do you have a picky eater who drives you crazy or do you just make whatever you want and let them go hungry if they don't like it?

I do not thank goodness. That is so kind of you and hospitable to make something he can eat.

He's kind of thin, so I can't let him go without eating.

Possibly his tastes will change as he gets older. Mine did. I love things now that I really didn't care for as a young person - like vegetables, lol.

That depends on who the picky eater is. I guess I make the main meal for the majority and try to compromise a little for the other. I'm not as understanding as you, though.

It's just Mom and I, and neither of us are particularly picky eaters now, though I know Mom was when she was growing up. It's just as well that we're not picky because neither of us likes to cook and we buy a lot of prepared meals from the supermarket which only need warming up.

When there are only two of you, it makes sense to get things already prepared because it's hard to cook for just two without having waste. Many times you can't buy small sizes of important perishables.

I am my own picky eater. I don't eat cheese, sauces, spices, fried foods, grease of any kind, pork, milk and dairy products....you'd never be able to feed me!

I have two picky eaters: my husband and the young one. The young one is gone off to university now and hubby has been away for almost two weeks so I have only cooked a couple of times. I try new recipes online and get the thumbs up or thumbs down. Invariably someone will not be in agreement with the others. I have to get a unanimous vote if I am going to make it again. I have yet to have one of my kids' friends come to dinner and be picky, but I have had them here unexpectedly. I usually make enough for lunches the next day so amount is not the issue, but I don't always have left overs if we have an extra mouth to feed.

That saying is very true, whether it's food related or not! Yes, I have a couple of picky eaters myself. Heck, my oldest doesn't even like pizza (well, except maybe the crust). How's that for picky? lol

I'm afraid I am the family picky eater with a dislike of peas, tea and coffee among other basic edibles. It often causes my Mum and various friends culinary headaches.

Thankfully both my boys have learnt to eat what is put on the table. My husband is a little picky.. actually he is a vegetarian while my boys eat only meat.. I have to make sure to have both kinds of food at the table at all times.

I eat anything. I'm easy to please. I try to convince my daughters to eat whatever is served. They are young and they try. When they are old enough I'll let them cook their own food if they don't like what's for dinner.

My kids never were picky eaters so I never had to worry about trying to find something else to eat.

I always make a two weeks menu ready sitting with my family. It really helps. So it goes like "Everyone cannot be pleased at one time, but everyone can be pleased sometimes"
