The Penny Pincher.

I once heard of this guy who was a real penny pincher. Every Christmas he would go out and by his kids and wife gifts for Christmas. He would take all the gifts up stairs and put them away in the closet under lock and key. Come Christmas morning he would have everyone sit down stairs around the Christmas tree. Then he would take a shopping bag upstairs and place one gift in it and bring it downstairs to whoever it belonged to. He would repeat this over and over until all the gifts where handed out using the same shopping bag. He said that there was no sense in buying wrapping paper because it would just get torn apart and burned. I wonder what he did if he bought a big gift? Or maybe he didn’t buy big gifts that would not fit into his shopping bag. Are you a penny pitcher?

Yes I am a penny pincher but not too much like that guy! Yeah I know the wrappers get torn up, but hey that's the purpose of using them anyway: for a nice presentation. Recently, to save money I only go out when I have 2 or more things to do in the same area. Saves me the fare of going out everyday when I can do it all one day.

I buy some wrapping paper and use it until it's gone. I had a couple of rolls that lasted through two Christmases and then I used the leftovers for shelf lining paper. Hey, maybe I am a penny pincher.

@mom210 Sounds like your a good bargain shopper. I wished I were more that way but usually funds are tight and I don't have the freedom to do bargain shopping except at our local community clothing center. I just got a bunch of nice sweaters for $12.00, which I think is great as its hard to buy one sweater for $12.00!

We use it to wrap birthday presents in too, I buy it when it is 50-75% off after Christmas. If you get some with nice designs or snow flakes or something besides Santa, nobody notices it was for Christmas.

I'm definitely frugal, but definitely not to that extreme! That seems simply over the top to me... He's in a whole different category!!

I agree with you. Some people are like that though but we all have our ways that's what makes the world go round.

I don't think it's bad to be a penny pincher. It's a good way to save the extra penny for other things. I guess I should learn from him. Anyway, I always recycle my wrappers by saving those that are not torn and still in good condition and use it for the next year. Sometimes, my sister would use colourful magazine pages to wrap the presents. I think that is a great idea.

@Jlyn10 I'm with you I think it's wise to save where you can and especially not over spend as we never know what tomorrow will hold. There are some people who just seem to have a nack for saving on grocery bills and non food items. I have a friend who told me she went shopping and it came to $300.00 and then she gave her coupons and it came down to @ $180.00, I thought that was great.

@Butchcass4 Wow, that's a good saving of $120. Imagine what that much money could be used for.

I agree tearing open that hidden gift is like part of the big surprise. My husband is a marvelous gift wrapper. I love to open his gifts. He puts bows and the stringy stuff on em too.

I try to be frugal as much as I can but that sounds like an extreme case, hehe. Plus it's a once-a-year thing so I think it's okay to use wrapping papers, they make the gift look special in a way. Oh well, to each his own I suppose.

I wouldnt say that i am a penny pincher, I spend it wise however i also feel that caring is sharing to a certain extent, If i see a homeless man in the streets i wouldnt go and give him any money as i feel it wouldnt be spent on what is needed however i would call in at my subway and purchase them a sandwich and a drink. In regards to christmas i would say that i go all out and get my friends and family a gift with wrapping paper.

I am and it does kill me to watch them rip into those presents, knowing that paper costs so much. I do buy it at the end of the season to use for next year though, so that helps.

You definitely are wise in buying after the Christmas season when it's cheaper.

I don't earn yet, so it would not be a valid question if I was a penny pincher or not. But I definitely keep in mind and separate all that I need and savings from my pocket money. Unnecessary spending is a financial drain. Except when it comes to food

@ria1606roy I don't have a job per say except for myLot, Bubblews, and Persona paper. It seems like it takes forever to really earn anything on these sites, but it's better than nothing and it is an avenue that makes it so I can keep my Medicaid insurance, praise be to God for that. It pay's the 20% my husbands insurance doesn't pay. I try to remember to count my blessings daily as we have so many to be thankful for. Thank You Lord.

I'm a huge penny pincher. But when I did Christmas, I loved wrapping my packages so they looked awesome. I could do it and still pinch pennies. I got the cheap paper from the dollar stores. I got pretty ribbon and bows cheap there too. I would spend hours wrapping gifts.
