Not that good at starting a discussion

So, I am new to mylot, and I read some discussions here, and I said to myself "Gonna start my own discussion", but when I was gonna do it, I realized that I am not that at starting a discussion, or in another way, "bringing up something to talk about, with people I don't know anything".
Maybe it's just fear? I don't know, I don't think that's the problem with me.
Maybe I am just mentally blocked, or kind lost.
So... any tip guys? What should I do? Just post anything that comes to mind?
Just go through discussions and answer what I think is better?
Also, nice to meet you guys from mylot, I am Danilo, and sorry for any english mistake.

Welcome to myLot I hope that you will enjoy your time here.
There are a lot of topics that you can use in your discussions. You could share things from your personal life and ask for opinions or advice. Or you could write about things or news stories that you have seen, heard, read on the internet etc. That is just a few options, there are many other possibilities. But you don't have to start discussions. You could read and comment on other people's discussions in the beginning. That will give you the chance to meet some of the other members and interact with them. Some of their topics might inspire you and make it easier for you to write your own discussions

Well, we are all from different places, those differences could be an interesting line to discuss. You also mention your English, (which was good by the way), could start a discussion on odd phrases that don't make sense to you, or slang, or holidays, or food, or anything you want to ask the world at large, and I think you will do just fine. Just leave thoughtful comments on people's posts, and good people will follow you back and comment on your things, and boom, social discussion is born!

I am not that good at starting discussions either. I just can't thinkof a topic of interest, so I mostly post responses and comments to other discussions. I have started some though, and the ones I have started recently are getting responses, and now they have lots of comments, which is good too. They are staying alive and I am so happy that people feel my discussions are interesting enough to respond to them.

@ZHVegas It certainly does me, as I know that just one response can lead to lots of comments and maybe even more responses. I don't recall starting any discussions where I got no responses. I do help those in here though if I can on a no response discussionl. If the discussion is interesting enough, I will respond, and get the discussion going.

Yes, sometimes it is hard to think of something to post. But you can think of something that interests you. After you get the hang of the feel of it, you can go to other topics. I am pretty sure you have a lot of topics in your mind you want to write about. Good luck. welcome!

Hi Vegas,
Welcome to mylot. Actually, I've always thought that I have a similar problem with you. I'm not at starting a discussion myself. In fact, I even not that good in making a post. It's more than once or twice that I just read a discussion without leaving any comment. It's not that I don't know what to write. I have a lot in my mind. I just have some trouble in putting it into writing. Maybe because I was afraid that it wouldn't be good enough.
But Hey, if we don't give it a try, then we wouldn't know. So maybe we should just go with an advice you already know. Just write anything that comes to mind. Don't be afraid of being wrong or unable to write something that quite interesting. Cause even if you're not excellent at first, you can always improve it. But if you don't write anything, then you wouldn't know what to improve.

@ZHVegas Yeah.. This can be a great place for you to practice on expressing yourself with words. As there are so many people here would be happy to discuss a lot of topic. Just keep writing.

That's exactly what happens to me. It's the same, but I am trying to get used to writing more so I can get better.
I really think it's important to know how to express with words, and that's one of the reasons I started using mylot!
Also Thanks!

Hi @Vegas,you needn't hesitate so much to initiate your own discussion. You are not talking face to face with us after all.Staring a discussion is easy. All you need to know is,what you are sharing and how.We all are like you.Share with us your own experiences and feelings. It's good that you interact by putting comments below other discussions.Continue with it and start your own discussions.

@ZHVegas I do make mistakes! And sometimes stupid ones. But it is fine I guess because people know I'm not native.

@fufurinha Everyone does make mistakes! When I am talking with someone that isn't a native in the language, I really don't care that much cause I know not everyone is perfect.

You discussions are sure to find better response, if you have established good interaction, with some members here. this place seems more about, interaction, that stand alone ripostes.

Interacting, seems the buzzword here at Mylot, a discussion, if it has participants and res-ponders, may be one thing. But interacting, seems a more sure fire way of keeping the score board ticking here.
