Tire blew yesterday

Luckily nothing bad had happened. I went to work at the usual 6:30am, and was halfway there as I was petsitting. I heard this weird nose, I thought it was because a car was coming the other way and was crossing over the line so I moved over a little which hit the shoulder.
I pulled over as the noise continued, then started again yet it continued. The tire had been doing a slow leak and I had a tank in the back seat. So I thought maybe this was it, I got out to look. The entire rubber of the tire was missing (well pulled back).
I had to call my Dad to drive me to work, and he went when he was done work to change it. It had a toonie size hole, and the entire rubber you could pull back. He thinks I hit something on the road, and it blew a hole in it.
I now have one of my winter tires on it, and need to buy 2 new sets of tires now.
A lot of people have said it could of ended badly as the tire blew and many loose control. Which I felt nothing usually with a tire issue it pulls you every which way yet this was fine except the loud noise.

Yikes I am glad that nothing happened to you and that you are safe. Having a tire blow out when I am driving is something I am fearful of all the time especially the faster I go. I have thankfully never had it happen. It happened to my husband once when he was going 90. Thankfully no one was hurt then either but the tire ripped the rear side panel off.
