Is it worth dying for?

I was on my way home after college, when I noticed a huge crowd gathered near the main Administrative building of my college. They were all intently staring at something on the roof of the building. When I looked up, I saw a student standing dangerously on the boundary wall. Someone told me that he was a candidate for the upcoming University elections whose nomination had been scrapped for some reason. He was so dismayed and overcome with grief that he decided to end his life. This led to a crazy, tension filled half an hour of intense drama. Thank fully his close friends were able to dissuade him from taking the harsh step and a life was saved. What I don't understand is, what is so great about a college election that you would rather die than not contest in it? This whole incident brought to my mind a very important question - Is the value of life so trivial? I have come across cases where people committed suicide for something as trivial as not being able to buy a new phone or clothes. What is wrong with the world? Your life is far more greater in value than any materialistic gain of this world. Enjoy your life.

I think anytime someone goes that far as to something that means so much at one point there must be other things going on in their life that it just tipped this episode off our values and their values are different so sad when this takes ahold of you the end result put them up there.

Great question.. we have become a society which seem to have terrible values.. The competitive spirit is driving people nuts I guess.

Exactly. This world has become a sort of an elimination race, if you lag behind you are automatically eliminated. It doesn't take much to break a man's spirit today. Even the smallest thing can just flip the switch in a perfectly happy person.

@Shine10Mathew Doesn't that tell you something. about this generation.. we walk around with our heart on our sleeves. We seem to be the generation that has to have all its wants.. if that doesn't happen its better to trow their our away. Sad.

@sofssu So very true...Although I feel that today's youngsters are a very smart lot, they could be impatient and not very consistent when it comes to motivating themselves ,setting goals and achieving them.I see many of them leave things mid way, which is not a very good sign ..

Just one thing can mess up a persons whole being what they live for how they take things and what they think or how bad it is in their mind to take it to this level makes us wonder.

One trivial thing for me, can mean the world for you. Everyone has his perspective on life. But still I never understood, what tips them over to end their life if something goes wrong.
