You walk into your house and it’s completely different — furniture, decor, all changed. And nobody’s home

What do you think Happened?
I had been gone for months and so being dark out I had wandered into the wrong house.
Or did I go into another house in the neighborhood that wasn't sold yet and that is why there was no furniture and no one at home.
Or was it Halloween and someone was playing a trick on me.
Or had my home an furnishings been sold and I didn't know about it.
Maybe I never lived here in the first place.
Perhaps I was dreaming...

I think it was probably a dream. Some dreams are so "real" and are quite disconcerting.

@Gardengerty.... I have to say that I hate dreams that are so vivid that when you wake up you're not sure if it happened or if it was just a dream. -especially the horrible ones.

On balance, I think that you were dreaming. It isn't Hallowe'en and I doubt very much that your key would fit another house in the neighbourhood. I suppose that there's an outside chance that someone had sold your furniture without telling you but that's too scary to contemplate!
I hope that it was a dream!

@Marcyaz Hypothetical is awesome. That is why it can be a scary thing or a good adventure.

Well considering that looks like my place now as we are in bad need of furniture it would look quite familiar to me.

@TiarasOceanView
If we lived closer I would even bring some furniture to you as we have more than enough.

If you'd been gone for months and had no contact with friends and family then maybe your home had been cleared and your goods and chattels sold to pay bills and the bank had foreclosed for not payment of mortgage and your house was about to be sold. Maybe..

What an interesting hypothetical situation. I actually don't have that much furniture in my apartment to begin with. I'm getting divorced at a young age and haven't had much time to accrue possessions like that, so my living room is already just about bare.
If I walked into my room and saw that my furniture was missing, though, I guess I would be just sad. I would assume that someone had robbed me of my few material objects, but I wouldn't stress, really. I don't have that much that I own that I genuinely care about, since they're just physical objects. I would just save up and start over like I always do.

It's either a dream or I walked into the wrong house by mistake. I would love to have this happen and be my home.

Maybe your friend wanted to give your house a makeover. When she had thrown everything away she discovered that she couldn't afford new furniture

The worst possibility - squatters took it all, aliens came down to earth and took away the furniture to their land..earthlings plonk themselves on such things ..or ate it away because that is their food, termites! Yikes..ok best possibilities..you are dreaming and some television program hosts decided to give your home a new makeover. You choose.

I hope it's a dream and not a prank! But I have to say I like Sandy's @rusty2rusty idea, maybe it's a surprise and someone just bought a new house for you!
