Have you ever got hooked on an online game?

I find some online games addictive. This is hardly surprising since these games are  especially designed to work that way. My poison at the moment is Farmville 2. I like games where I can compete with others and  beat them. Sometimes it is enough that I can compete with me lol... as long as I can get better at doing it. The problem is that it tends to steal great chunks of time. I get so focused when I play that I don't realise how much time is going by when I am engaged in it. To break the habit I have to go cold turkey because with me it tends to be an all or nothing thing.  How about you? Are you easily hooked?

when i first joined facebook, my daughters friend bombarded me with game requests. since i was so ill 'n couldn't do much else, i bit. dunno 'bout that farmville 2, but was quite addicted to the original. 'n then zynga 'd so many glitches 'n kept expandin' it all that i quit it cold turkey. still worry 'bout all my critters there - i had a beautiful farm. then i got suckered into farmtown. 'twas fun 't first 'n then they kept expandin' the game 'n farms 'n gadgets 'n such. i finally quit it 's well. i'm not competitive 'n stick with a few word games online - jest to remind myself that i can spell proper when the need arises, lol.

@cahaya1983 I think games that engage your brain when you play are better than the ones that just steal your time like the one I play. Though as I have put in some of my comments already, I feel cold turkey coming on.

@wetnosedogs I like those games too, and they are not so addictive as a lot of other online games. They are good fun to play and they engage the brain in a productive way.

I used to really be into online games. Nowadays, not so much. I'm too busy and there are better ways to spend my time. I don't get hooked onto games now.

@kataomoi Like you, I think that there are far better ways to spend time than playing online games. Time is our most precious resource and can only be spent once, so it is far to valuable to waste. I can see writing about this is reinforcing my desire to go cold turkey once again, and this time not going back to it.

I love online games! Currently, I'm obsessed with Pandemic-2, which is extremely addictive. Extremely very addictive. I'm warning you.

@maggs224 But it's about infecting the whole world with a pathogen of your choice and then preventing anyone from curing your infection...so not everyone likes it. :)

@BrainySaber Oh I would not like that, I would have to be one of the ones trying to find the cure that you couldn't prevent lol...

I used to play hidden object, mystery and puzzle games online, but that was years ago. Some of them were really addictive, I have to admit! Criminal Minds was one of my favorites.

@maggs224 Yeah some of them have really bad graphics it makes it really hard to play. I quit cold turkey too, haha. But I think if I have more free time I probably would still play those games!

@cahaya1983 I liked those hidden object games, but I found that the scenes were too small for me to see properly. It is only in the last few years that I have dipped my toes into the online games scene. Like I have just said to my friend @crazyhorseladycx I think that it time for me to stop wasting my time and go cold turkey again :D

@cahaya1983 That is the thing though, our time is the only thing that we cannot get back. If we lose our money or our possession we can get more. But if we waste our time it is gone and we cannot get it back. So we don't have any free time only well spent time or wasted time. I think that I have wasted enough on games. I am glad that you quit and are spending your time in much better ways now lol...

I am afraid that I am going in the age where I don't get to much enjoyment on playing mmorpg. In my age where working is a must, Dota 2, HoN and other games which will take only an hour a game is the most efficient thing to kill boredom. Before, I play guildwars 2 all day and night long and when I learn to work for money, it is more addictive than playing games and it took my addiction to gaming though occasionally, I still play :)

I got hooked up to maplestory until 5 years ago, I also got hooked up to tankionline until 2 weeks ago (for 2 months). Those games drained a lot of valuable time from me for studying, training and other stuff. The good thing in the games is that one can see he gets better in the games, he can express himself. The best game we better get hooked on, is our real life. We can get better, do important things, and that's a shame many people just waste their time on games that don't even improve real life skills.
