Yesterday, with the help of my husband, we have removed all the stuff stored in our understairs.
There were plenty of boxes and items that we do not really use that were forgotten down there, it was time to declutter.
We have assembled a bookcase, especially designed to follow the shape of the stairs. Earlier today, I have painted the walls and the ceiling of the understairs space. A few minutes ago we have placed our bookcase.
Now the space is squeaky clean and ready to receive the items we decide to keep.
I feel satisfied for the job I did, it's good to see this place neat and clean.

We cleaned out our entire apartment. This was due to a bug infestation. And, I do mean we cleaned out. My daughter was a bit of a hoarder and didn't like to throw anything away. I must admit I was bad that way too. But, not we are down to just the very few things we just couldn't part with and the place is so much better now.

@LadyDuck Yes, it really is. Especially for those who are nearly hoarders. LOL

I understand how happy you must be with the work that you both did.
I tend to store items I don't really need because I don't want to throw them away. Every once in a while it is nice to clean up the mess and keep only what you need. Organization is a great skill.
Your new bookcase looks lovely, you did a great job!

@LadyDuck Yes, I understand. My boyfriend is like you, he throws away all unnecassary stuff. I do the opposite, I have boxes with old stuff that I'm never going to use again. I have placed them in the storage room and they have sentimental value to me.

@besweet I also have a few boxes with photos and stuff that have sentimental value, but by husband keeps things that really have no sense. He has newspaper that are at least 15 years old! I believe that we can throw all of them, why to keep?!

I got rid of a whole lot of books going by the way they were just there and not read for years. I intend getting rid of other stuff too.
Your looks neat and tidy. A neat place helps one think clearly so it is said.

One more good idea for good interior looks. Along with cleaning we have to make sure that cleanliness is longlasting, for that all the family members should cooporate.

Good luck on not overfilling that nice looking bookcase. I just went through an area to the side of a dresser where we put our house titles and such. I thought I put a decorative dish there that I got years ago which would hold colored clear stones and a nice candle. Alas, and to my surprise it wasn't there after all. But I did find other things that didn't belong and put them elsewhere. Now, I'll have to try to figure out where I did put my blue dish. It's all still in the box it came in and I got it for free. My table used to be loaded with my bookwork, but it's now cleared off, so I thought it would be nice to get that on it. Ah well.

sounds quite an under-taking. Worth it no doubt for how new and fresh everything looks before usage reclutters everything before you end up doing it all again.
