Do you think that the media tells us only one side of the news instead of reporting it?

I was on Facebook the other day and I saw topical video. The video showed footage thatI had  seen reported and which has gone viral. But this  video showed me extra footage of those incidents. The extra footage was background stuff that I had not seen reported at all.  Some of the footage shown concerned the incidents that had gone viral. This unseen video footage put an entirely different spin on the incidents. This is a link to that video I must admit that I had seen all the footage that had been reported because it is all over the place on the internet. But the other stuff was all new to me and it changed what I thought about what I had seen. I think it is time that our media went back to reporting the news. It is not their job to make the news by selective biased reporting. What do you think?
Why are mainstream media outlets like CNN and BBC only broadcasting footage which shows the migrants in a positive light? http://infowars.com

The media no longer want to inform the public, they want to shape the opinions the public holds. They decide the narrative and show the information that supports their narrative. They sometimes make wild suppositions and accusations which stick in the minds of the audience, and if they make corrections later, that is rarely noticed by the people whose minds are now made up and fixed based on the news reporting they initially heard. It's a quiet takeover of the world by the press, a total misuse of their power and a betrayal of those they are meant to serve.

Shame people no longer have a mind of their own and are fooled by all the bias they see on TV

@gudheart I think that it is getting harder for the media to get away with their lobsided reporting. When so many people have phones with cameras on, it is hard these days to do something in public without someone whipping out their phone and making a video which they then put on YouTube.

I do believe that a lot of things in the media are definitely one sided and that we don't always know about the other side of the story.

@maggs224 This is true. More people are skeptical of what the media says also.

@simone10 One thing is very encouraging is that more and more people are becoming aware that they are being played and manipulated via the media.

There are many sides to every story. Depending on the side the news media wants to tell, you're going to get a story slanted towards one side. Really in this day and age, it's important to do your research and draw your own conclusions. Because, it's obvious the news media are going to have your agenda. Often times different agendas depending on the channel. It's kind of naive to expect the complete story. You can frame a story in different ways to make people be sympathetic or otherwise. The bottom line is money, and facts can be skewed to fit into the bottom line.

@megamatt You are so right, the bottom line is often money and power based. That 1% a tiny minority that have the lion's share of both have an agenda all of their own. They don't care about right and wrong or which brand of politics or even their country. They don't care about those of us their agenda will harm. They only care about themselves.

I am sure that the media only show what the politicians let them show to us. I have always thought that, for some reason that we do not know, right now we have to think that all the immigrants are poor people who need help, they are kind and charitable. I have seen them at our local Railroad station, many of them, even if not all, are not quiet and friendly at all.

@LadyDuck I am sure Anna that either way, the real victims in all this are those whose misery is being used to stir up hatred and fear. Those in power on both sides of the argument are using the people and the situation. Both sides want to stir up feelings that will result in us all being easy to manipulate. Those in power should be looking out for us and our wellbeing not looking out for themselves.

@maggs224 I agree, they are using those poor people for their political meanings. It is a shame.

I think it is very biased on every news piece. That is why I always have an open mind when viewing the news.

@gudheart I think that you are wise to come with an open mind, though when people watch particular channels on TV or buy a particular newspaper often they are not seeking news but reinforcement of their views.

The media, to me, tries not to report the real issues of the world. Something happening somewhere they don't want people to know about? Pick a different thing to blow way out of proportion for a while and then suddenly...boom. It's gone. Because the thing they were trying to cover up is over. The media also try to show the worst side of every story and try to make things seem worse than they are. They show us a story set in one place but refuse to mention the parts of said place that could easily help out the ones in trouble. And then there is how the media portrays hate crimes. White man shoots up some place? Poor, misunderstood lonely child who was probably abused. Person of colour is so poor that they have no other choice but to steal food from a store? Criminal gang, terrorist, etc etc. The media today is a joke. They cover basic news, one side of the basics, and on top of all that are biassed in their opinions and reports. They don't want you to know what's really going on. It's all, "oh yeah, there's this war thing, there was this attack and- OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! LOOK WHAT THIS CELEBRITY JUST DID! FORGET THE IMPORTANT STUFF, LET'S FOCUS ON THAT!"

@TrueBellaRose I think that you and I are very much on the same page when it comes to the media. As you have said we see these tactic played out time and time again. The sad thing is it works time and time again. Though I am please to say that I think that access to the internet and the technology available to enable ordinary people to post videos,is slowly changing that.
