There is both good and bad new regarding the trees that cover our planet. First the good news – there are seven times more trees on Earth than anybody thought. Some years ago scientist made an estimation that there were about 400 billion trees. Now a new study shows that there are about 3 trillion trees (3 with 12 zeroes). What this means is that there are 420 trees for every person living today. One would think that this is terrific news. Now for the bad news – thousands of years ago the Earth had about 6 trillion trees. As time has gone on and humans have had the need for trees that number has been cut in half. A good example of what has been happening is that at one time Europe was mostly one giant forest. A great deal of it today is farmland, fields, cities and towns. The estimation is that people are destroying about 15 billion more trees each year due to deforestation and need for farmland. Now we are faced with the fact that there is a desperate need to restore lush and healthy forests all over the world. So cherish the trees on this Earth and whenever you can do your part to plant a tree. I have a large oak we fondly call Henry in our garden. I know he would appreciate it if you did all you could for his brothers. I have included a picture of Henry. What are your thoughts? I think about this all the time whenever I see land being cleared for buildings to be created on. I think about it when people are cutting down trees for Christmas. I think about it when I hear people are cutting down trees for money. I really wish that for every tree cut another one would get planted somewhere else where it can thrive and give us healthy oxygen. Unfortunately that is not the case. Some companies do this but not enough. I have tried planting and growing some trees for arbor day but I am just not very good at it. I tend to forgot to water them.

@shaggin never tried planting a tree but if it would help and I could I'd plant at least a hundred.

I love trees truly. It is sad to think that so many have gone. I imagine what the earth looked like at one time with all the more trees. I am a tree hugger haha
