Children or No children

I was wondering if there are people out there that do not have children. Was it a choice to not have children? Do you regret it? Do people treat you different because you don't have children.

I have children (now adults) but my girlfriend chose not to and she has never regretted the decision. She would occasionally run in to someone who would tell her she would regret the decision and other such well intended but still inane things.
