Getting Creative with Hot Dogs

What I love about a hot dog is you can kind of 'dress it up or dress it down'. It's something that you can get really creative with if you want to, instead of just slapping on some ketchup! Typically, people around here like toppings like ketchup, mustard, slaw, chili, and relish. I consider those toppings to be common for hot dogs. What I like to do is get really creative and use toppings that you wouldn't necessarily think about putting on a hot dog. Ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and spicy mustard makes for a great 'Cuban' dog! If you love a Reuben sandwich, try topping your hot dog with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing. For a Vietnamese style hot dog, you could try some spicy mayo, sliced cucumber, shredded carrot, and fresh mint leaves. ...and my ultimate favorite hot dog is topped with barbecue sauce, Cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon! Yum! How do you like your hot dogs?

Ok, when it comes to hotdogs, I lack the creativity big time. I stick with the common and yet even cut that down. I eat mine with only mayonnaise and dill relish on mine.

I absolutely LOVE mayonnaise on my hot dogs. As a matter of fact, I've eaten hot dogs with nothing but mayonnaise on it plenty of times.

I stopped eating meat when I was 7. That was the last time I ate hot dogs. I always just ate them with ketchup or my mom would cut them open put some cheese slices in the middle and wrap them in crescent rolls and bake them. They were so yummy. She called them pigs in a blanket. My ex told me how his father would cut slices in one end of hot dogs and cook them in water in the microwave and put them on his plate with the slices spread out to look like an octopus.

Do you eat vegetarian hot dogs? I've never tried one, but heard that the good quality ones were pretty good.

Some of those toppings sound good. I do love a kraut dog, but without the dressing. I don't like Thousand Island Dressing. A long time ago when I was still a child, my mom found this hot dog article in a magazine. You get hamburger buns instead of hotdog buns and you place them face down on a cookie sheet to brown them a bit. Then you turn them over, and you place a hotdog that you have sliced almost all the way through from the sides so that you can make it into a circle shape. You put that on the bottom bun and add all kinds of fun toppings. You stick the cookie sheet back into the oven to get the hotdogs and toppings cooked through. Then you pull them out and top with the top of your bun that you saved out after browning. Your toppings would be good done that way.

I have never tasted a hot dog. lol. But based on the dressings that you've mentioned, it would be ketchup I suppose. No cheese.

I can literally hot dogs in any way - even plain! If not ketchup, mustard, and some onions, we will do chili dogs with onions and a little mustard. Oh, but I love mustard and sauerkraut dogs too. As a kid I used to love ketchup with relish!!

Any way that I can get them. I've loved hot dogs since I was a kid. I'll put virtually any topping on them as well until my bun looks like a total mess and I can't eat it without a full-body bib.

Well: bread, sausage, sauces (ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard), chopped onion, ham and sometimes some lettuce. I don't eat with cheese (I don't like it)

My kiddo eats them cold right out of the fridge, but they have to be CHEESE filled!!!! I don't know if he'd be open to fancier ones.
