Looks like the genie, which Mark Zuckerberg, didn't wish to come out;may be out of the bottle, in due course of time.It is surely going to impact; not just FB, but many other social networking sites as well, where users have been demanding a 'dislike' button.

This seems to have been widely mis-reported. Mr Zuckerberg said NOTHING about a 'Dislike' button (and the company have repeatedly said that they would NOT be implementing such a thing); what he actually said on Tuesday was “... what they really want is an ability to express empathy. If you’re expressing something sad it may not feel comfortable to ‘like’ that post, but your friends and people want to be able to express that they understand.”
A 'dislike' button, as such. has been tried by a number of sites (including MyLot) and has mostly been dropped as being unproductive and negative. It should be noted that the 'thumbs down' button on YouTube does a lot more than 'dislike'!

The Youtube thumbs down button is a very apt feature, a dislike on the other hand; seems quite categorical, as well as somewhat, offensive.

This might just be me, and is my own personal opinion. I see no use for a 'dislike' button. If you don't like something, don't go there, don't read it, etc. Basically just ignore it and go about your business.

I believe that you're in the majority, TT, especially where earning sites are concerned because a 'dislike' is often linked to earnings and always damages a person's character on that site and leads to untold abuse.
If something is bad enough to be genuinely unlovely, then it's probably against the rules of the site and should be reported. Otherwise, as you say, one should be adult enough to ignore it.

@owlwings I agree with you on that one! The button has all the ingredients of bringing disrepute to a comment. I would prefer an,'unlikable', button to things, which may not be to one's choice. a dislike is too brusque to be ignored.

@owlwings Absolutely! It is bad enough that they have that one button already that can hurt ones earnings if people have a mind to use it. Or I think it would affect people's earnings.
Normally if you read a topic and the first bit before open a discussion, it will tell you whether you might like it or not. Even if you open and read through it and don't care for the discussion, you can just go to another one. There might be others that actually like the discussion.
In all my years online I have run across people who are just spiteful and will do nasty things just to try and hurt others or even a site. I would hate to see that happen here at mylot.

Looks like most of the folks truly 'dislike' a dislike!
