I have overcome a speech problem with the help of my son who had a similar problem. I was unable to make the th sound as a child and because of the way it came out I was made fun of. . Because of this if I wanted to go to the theater I would say movies and never would say theater again. My son was given speech therapy and he would do this at home also in front of a mirror and I started to do the same thing, it finally helped me to overcome my speech problem. Now neither one of us has as severe a speech problem as we know when we speak to be aware of how to make these sounds. I can't describe how proud and happy this makes me, speech therapy really does help.

That is awesome! I stuttered REALLY bad as a child, so I understand the stigma that comes with a speech impediment. I also learned how to fight lol :)

Thanks David, as a child that stuttered you know exactly what I am talking about. I bet you also had people who wanted to finished your sentences for you, how frustating that must have been. Well as a young boy you would be bullied and needed to know how to fight those bulies who were making fun of you.

@Lushlala I'm an example of having to suck it up and live with it. Now there are so many ways to help in therapy.

@Marcyaz It's absolutely fantastic! To think that in the past some people had to suck it up and just live with it. These days the medical world can correct so many different things, it's really amazing :)

That is amazing Marcy and good for you two! Yes sometimes just one method can help the symptom of something like this. I am glad you found that method. Where did you learn it at some therapy center or doctors or what?

My son had speech therapy in school and would come home and practice looking into a mirror and told me what he was doing and how so I decided I would do the same thing and it worked.

It is good to hear that you were able to cure yourself from your speech problem. I can understand that you would have done lots of practice and you would have shown lots of guts and determination in overcoming your speech problem. Many of us do not feel confident, when we speak at a gathering. It is, therefore, one should have some exposure and practice to be able to speak in a audience.

I'm glad you were able to overcome your speech problem. Alot of people our born with issues and i think everyone is equal and shouldn't be made fun of. But the world is how it is and nothing we can change. Glad you don't have the issue anymore and maybe you can help someone else that may have a speech problem also

Thanks Blondie yes a lot of us have issues some of which show and others don't show but I agree no one should make fun of a person for any reason. I am always willing to help anyone if I can.

That is great news and I am happy for you. It sure is difficult to express yourself at times when you have a speech problem because you need to find an alternate word that will not use the 'TH' however come to think of it, it also exercises your mind to search the thesaurus in your head for the word equivalent.

Most children have a problem with the S sound like spaghetti but they will learn in time. I never had a problem with the letter R. At least he doesn't have that problem any longer.

@Marcyaz Yeah, I guess I was. The only thing I had to overcome was that I was overweight as a child and was made fun of. But I don't think that is quite the same thing.

I also think that the advancement in a medical world nowadays has become very sophisticated. Almost every psychological problem can be treated with overcame with a suitable therapy. With all those treatment, there's no need to worry about being unable to do something due the psychological matters and suffer from it. I'm glad that you have successfully overcome you speech problem.

First of all I must express my pleasure in hearing that you are now OK in the Described context. Let me explain My experience in a different field but I think their is no another this sort of most appropriate opportunity to do this. When I was ready to attend grade 6 at the end of grade 5 a sudden sylalbus change occurred in our college.Till then we all did our studies in our local languages. So I couldnot even read or write or even speak English.(still I'm not perfect)So in the first day in this English classthe said many things but could not Understand anything at all.I can still remember that the teacher said certain food items but the idea she gave to us was not Understood by me.She had told not to bring certain food items to the class for the interval . Many Students teased me for bringing that not-to-bring food items to the class the Following day. So I Wanted to do well in English thus I read many English books in evenings and improved it a lot alone. This Resulted me to become the best English announcer at my college after about a half a decade.

Wonderful that you went ahead because of that and you read lots of English books and went on to become the best English announcer at your college. That is determination.
