I would and have done so. One day about 12 years ago I was going for a walk with one of my dogs and there was a lady laying against a tree. I went up to her and tried talking to her but she seemed to be out of breath and I told her I was going to call and ambulance. I asked her if she was bleeding any place she indicated no. She did not look like she was homeless as she had on nice jeans and a nice enough top and her tennis shoes were clean. Of course when I called 911 they asked me a lot of questions about age, etc which of course I couldn't answer. I told them she seemed to be having a hard time breathing but other than that she wasn't bleeding that I could tell. I could not just walk by and see someone like her just lay there and not do anything. I stayed with her holding her until the ambulance came. If we all would help our fellow people in need this World would be a better place.

I hope we would all do so. When I was a student back in the 1970s I remember walking home in the rain after dark and thinking - what would happen if I came across someone lying in the road? (Don't ask me why I was thinking this - I just was!). A minute later I came across a guy who was lying in a shop doorway with a bleeding head, having been hit with a glass bottle. I was able to get him back to my digs where my landlady and I patched him up as best we could and called a local doctor round to see him.

That was very good of you to help this man who was bleeding and to take him to your place and call a local doctor to look at him. We need more people like you who care for their fellow man.

It is an offense here to not help somebody in danger. I did it twice, although they were not really in danger and I cannot say that I have saved a life. It happened when mobile phones were not common. Once I drove back home a man who had a car accident. He was not injured, but he was in the countryside during the night and he told me that he was hitchhiking since more than a hour and nobody stopped, although he was near his damaged car. And another time I was stopped by some hunters from one of them who had received a few leads in a leg. He was bleeding, but it was not serious, except that he could hardly walk. He did not wanted to go the hospital, and told me to drive him at his home and he offered me a drink.

At least you offered to help which is a lot more than some people would do. You did what you could both times.

I was walking out of a convenience store going to my car and right after me was this guy..he went into a seizure and since i had an ex who was, i immediately went straight for him holding his head so it wouldn't bang on the cement..all the other people just stared..no help..and found out his wife was one of the people who just kept staring at me..he had his wallet in his hands just before and it went flying..so i grabbed it so no one would steal it..i guess she was more concerned with me holding his wallet then my other hand holding his head..???..he finally came too and i handed wallet and him over to her.. and left..no thank you's or anything from anyone..

I have seen a fellow have a seizure and his friends knew what to do and asked the people staring to please leave as it was doing no good to him to have people staring at him. If you can't do anything to help just move on. I am sure he would have thanked you as later he would think about it and be grateful for your help.

Looks like the fellow would have been in too much of a daze to appreciate what you did for him.Such accidents leave the sufferer pretty numb for some time.

It was good of you to do so Marcy. A lot of people would be frightened to now today to help another person. You are a blessing for whoever comes into contact with you a good heart and conscience. You may have saved that womans life. Yes I did that not long ago, out here in the place in front of my apts, a young man was having a seizure and I went to help..there was no one else out there.

@Lushlala What if it was the other way around we would hope someone would come to our rescue. No one wants to feel like they are all alone in a time like that.

This also happened to me. I was walking in my native city in Italy when an elder man fell on the sidewalk, just in front of me. I tried to help, but he did not reply, I was scared, I saw a policeman and I called for help. I believe that the man had a heart attack, an ambulance came and he was taken to the hospital.

That was really good of you to stop and help her. So many today would not. I would have but I know that I would only be able to comfort her as you did. I wouldn't want to make a life decision medically on her behalf. I would leave that to the professional. That sometimes makes me rather nervous in helping someone. I would at least call 911 and keep them comforted until they came.

Wow, your helping that lady could very well have saved her life, @ marcyaz. My initial reaction would be to help, but i think these days you just never know who you're 'helping'. There've been many horror stories about people asking for directions, being in seemingly desperate situations etc only to pounce on their would be rescuer. I hate that these types of incidents have made us very jaded and suspicious of everyone around us. I guess if I was with other people and we were in a fairly public place, I would help.

This was an older lady and I know if my mother or an older friend needed help I would wish someone would stop and help. I never even thought of my being in peril only of this lady who seemed to be in distress.

@Marcyaz I know what you mean, Marcy. It really tugs on your heartstrings and obviously, if it were a genuine case, I'd never be able to live with myself. But sometimes you really don't know what to do for the best. I remember that only a few years ago, some criminals were involving little old dears that you would never ever have suspected of being so horrible. They were actually party to the whole thing! There were quite a few documentaries that I saw that horrified me.

Nice. I would hope that most people would react the same way. When he'd just come out of hospital my husband even had young people in the street ask if he nbeeded help when they saw him struggling.

You don't have to be a nurse just holding someones hand or hugging them is a big help so they don't feel they are alone.

I would love to whenever possible. My uncle who is a doctor once helped a patient who suddenly got respiratory problems during a long-distance flight. I can imagine how satisfying it is knowing that we can offer help whenever we can.

In our place what you did rarely happens as police have to file a case and you will be interrogated, you may have to come to court so people most of them avoid unless if one is really close member!!sad but system problem!!

It is a good thing that you came along. Not many people would stop to help anyone they thought was injured. Just the fact she was laying by a tree, is enough to realize, that she certainly was out of place, and did need help. I think in a situation like that, I probably would have helped her as well.I just can't stand to see people hurt or suffering.

One day when I just went from my classes and I saw that I'm missing the bus and I just started running in suppose to catch the bus, Suddenly, one man who is riding a motorcycle rashly mess with a old couple who is also riding a motorcycle. The old couple is fall from motorcycle in the front of me and the man who is riding his bike rashly is run away from their. At that time I left my bus and help the old men and women for humanity. I saw that, They had got some minor injuries and some scratches on their body not the major one. So I asked them that, are you alright or is their is any serious injuries, do you need medical? And then they said, no, we are OK just need some water and I gave them my water bottle. One of the man standing on the crowd borrowed some bendeds from someone for them and heel the some outer injuries of both. So, whenever I think about that moment I feel glad and proud on my self and a quick smile come on my face just cause i did a nice work by helping those old couple. So according to me helping others will make you happy and it bring a smile on your face. So, keep helping ..

Thank You, I feel if it was me laying there I would appreciate someone checking on me and holding my hand, I don't know if she was scared but I think so and just having someone near might have reassured her as I don't know her circumstances. I tried to find out about her but the hospital would not give me any information.

Yes I helped a man lying on the path. Someone said don't bother with him, he's drunk. But like you I couldn't just walk by and called an ambulance. I went to see him in the hospital to see if he was ok, and he thanked me.

@Marcyaz I feel in a really critical situation, one would respond to it more by reflex and intuition, and perhaps his or her own nature, than by serious calculations. Some people would help without thinking of repurcussions, while others would simply walk away.

Yes, I have helped a stranger before. It was outside of our apartments when we lived in Vegas. A lady fell up against the wall and down on the ground. The sound is what caught my attention. I called 911 and stayed with her until they arrived. She had a lot of medical problems and although she made it through and came home after a few days, she did pass away a few weeks later.

In China there are some cases happened like this:an old people fell down himself /herself,a young people went and supported help ,the old people blamed for injury and asked for compensation after being taken to hospital by young people.

@Kim....I think these are some of the reasons people who are wary to help, just walk away because they fear it could be a ruse! The only problem is that this makes it hard to distinguish between a genuine case and a trap!

It is strange how most of us think of the other person needing help and whether or not we would help. We should also realise that the situation could easily be reversed. I guess it is an inbuilt mechanism of the mind not to dwell on unpleasant things.
