Dumpster Diving

I went to my grocery store and they had already crushed the first set of boxes. I really did not want the trip to be for nothing, so I drove around the corner and went dumpster diving.
I have often read and been told that the best place to get awesome boxes is at a liquor store. So that is where I went dumpster diving.
I would not say they are awesome, but they are good. I got some with dividers which works well with fragile things. Having enough boxes on hand makes the whole thing easier.

Good you got something out of it.
I have never had the fun of doing this but would do it definitely.

I like that I could get some boxes with dividers to help take care of fragile items.

A lot of people do this here for good "stuff" that others throw away or things that they can fix. Unfortunately some people do this just to have food to eat. It is amazing what you can find in the trash. I seldom do it, I have lots of "stuff"

This move is a total hodgepodge. I have things in pillowcases and bags that are projects, and things in kitty litter buckets, etc. If things were going into long term storage I would have to be more organized.

That is a plus because my husband is still on lifting restrictions. they fold back up nicely and seem sturdy as well.

Dollar General typically has a good assortment of boxes coming in on their trucks every week. The "truck days" vary by store, so I'd recommend either calling or going in to speak with someone. They might agree to hold them for you if they know you're coming to pick them up.
Another place I've gotten some really good sturdy ones is the local movie theatre. They should have a bunch from the candy they sell, and if they have the liquid "butter" topping those boxes are great for heavier items like dishes.
I've been swiping all of the diaper boxes the toddler's daycare has been leaving out by the recycling for the janitors to take out... they use the Kirkland ones and they're working out great as 'donate' boxes for the stuff I'm clearing out.
How's your move coming along?

Well the tenant has two more weeks. We were hoping he would be out early. My husband is still on restrictions so it is a matter of whatever I get done. My daughter covers diaper boxes with fabric for storage. They fit those shelves that have cubbies.

@GardenGerty We have a set of those in the kids' room. I was using the canvas bins, but they've managed to rip a couple of them already. It's too bad I don't usually come across diaper boxes that size. I can see how they would be a lot sturdier than the canvas bins!

@yukimori Maybe you could find some liquor store boxes. They tend to be small because of the weight of a large box. And they tend to be sturdy to protect the contents.

Check to see if your area is in a site called Freecycle. I see people offering moving boxes all the time.
