Have them when you are old

I was reading an article today in the Doc's office that was saying women who have their last child after 33 are two times as likely to outlive most of their peers that have completed their family by age 29. Amazing! We ladies have been told to have them young, in fact anybody who has been pregnant in their thirty's know we start to get that speech about that magic age of 35 when you suddenly turn into a pumpkin and should not have kids because our eggs are just so OLD. The article also said that for each year over age 33 that a woman has her last child, she boosts her chance of out living her peers by another 5%. Research says whatever it is that keeps a woman fertile longer also helps them live longer. I say it is simple, kids keep us young! In my opinion, once again the medical community doesn't have a clue. They try hard to put us all into a mold of "this is right for everybody" I say just do what feels right for you!

I am 38 and still not a Mom. If my eggs go bye bye, so be it. I am a firm believer in what will be, will be, if I am meant to be a Mom I will, if not, then we all have a different path in life.

I have a friend that got her tubes tied when she was 23, she knew she never ever wanted kids. She likes kids, just did not want any of her own. Some people just not not want their own, and that is okay. If we were all the same life would be so boring.

I guess I won't be living all that long, for I had my last one at 23. I had the mind set, I wanted to enjoy my children, and then life once they ere grown. Not raising a child in my retirement years.

@mom210 I sure would want to raise kids after retiring. Call me selfish. Yes, you do have a point about the genetics.

@TexanTornado Mycousin has adopted a baby after retirement and looks so haggard and tired all the time.. Now she keep saying she may have made a mistake. She has two grown up kids of her own.

I do think it would be hard to enjoy retirement while raising kids. I thin it is funny how they did not even calculate family genetics into the whole thing, some families live a really long time others have shorter life spans.

Grandparents are having a tough time with their grandchildren as they are too old to care and/or enjoy them. Late marriages of their children is a result of this

i think no matter how old you are, you either are the type that enjoy them or you don't want bothered. that is true with any individual person.

I have noticed Some grandparents forget how to be stern, I guess because it is their grandchild, not their kid.

I agree that taking care of them keeps us young.. but then with my second I feel I have less energy and patience.

@mom210 He is a teen now.. I need so much more patience to deal with him at this stage. I guess babyhood was a cake walk with my second son.

@sofssu Oh yes, I know about teen boys too, If only we could skip the teen years and get them back when they turn human again.

How old is that one? I find the "baby" period gets a little harder to deal with with each one. I like my sleep.

I know a lot of ladies want them early so they can go on the their careers, others want them after their careers are established. Whatever works.

@mom210 it worked great with my 3 oldest because i was still able to play with them (now that i think of it, i still played some with the younger ones) plus the younger ones may not have had my full attention like the first 3 but had had more provided for them. in both cases i have some that preferred the stay at home approach and some that liked the "things" better lol. i don't think it makes a differeence. i think they turn out how they will no matter.

I have seen older parents with their kids and they seem to appreciate them so much, maybe because they waited. I have also seen young mothers in the store SO frustrated with their kids and not seeming like they appreciate them at all. I have also seen a few families that have a few early and few later for various reasons. I have a friend that was told she could never have any and she had six, that doc was surprised (so was my friend). I thought it was really funny how they thought they could just stick us all into a box and say... this is the way it is. hogwash. These studies all tickle me.

I had the twins when I was 39 so I guess I get a bit longer to live. Now I did have my older children when I was very young. I wonder if that will affect my outcome? LOL Our kids do keep us very busy.

@mom210 Well I am sure that the twins and the 6 year old keep me young. They wear me out and give me lots of grey hair but I am still young because of them. I like the idea of those extra years (as long as I am sane during them).

I started when I was young and kept on until I was old, I don't know how that works into the equation either.

I think it's whatever suits the individual these days. My sister had hers young and has always enjoyd being active with them. I had mine late twenties but wouldn't have had the patience when a little older.

I see that patience thing happening as I get older, now I know why grandparents enjoy their grand kids so much, they give them back when they get tired of them and get short on patience.

In my family babies well into the 40s are the norm. I mom had 3 children after she was 35, my grand mother had 3 and my great grandmother too. Me I was done at 22 but that is another story!! My daughter had her last one at 39 and the doctors gave her such a hard time she decided to not have more.
