It's nice to not need the AC 24/7

Although we haven't yet settled into an Autumn weather pattern of cool, dry days and crisp, cold nights, we have seen a slight dropping of daytime temperatures. That has helped me keep the AC off for at least parts of some days and most of the nights. This is a great relief. I spend all summer trying to settle disputes between my hot and sticky self and my frugal self. Part of me cannot stand being hot and uncomfortable, while part of me constantly worries about the electric bill. When Autumn comes, I won't have to worry. Not hot enough for AC, not cold enough for heat. The best of all possible worlds. When it gets too cold or too hot, do you use the heat or air conditioning without regard to the cost, or do you fret about the cost so much that you suffer rather than spend the money it takes to be comfortable.

We do not have AC, this year has been exceptionally hot, but only during 2 weeks in July and about 9 days in August. Winter is another matter, we have to heat the house. I am very concerned about the cost.

Costs for utilities seem to go up every year, and I don't know how people can manage to keep their houses as warm as they do.

@Rollo1 It is becoming very expensive. I keep the heating very low in the bedrooms, a little warmer where we work.

we don't have a/c in our house as in the UK it is usually cold most of the time, but during the summer it can get hot so I just use the fan,

We have total extremes in New Engand. Heat waves in the summer, Frigid waves in the winter, and then the crazy months in between when anything can happen.

i've gotten to where i have no choice when it's too humid.with these hot flashes,i risk whiteouts if i get too overheated.yea, the bill is a punch in the gut,but i can try saving elsewhere to make up for it.

It is better to be safe than sorry. I just hate those summer electric bills. My heat is electric and yet I think the cooling bills are higher than the heating bills.

I feel you on this. My last electric bill was mind blowing. I thought I was going to have a stroke seeing how much they charged me. I have them coming down the beginning of October to evaluate the system. I am going to need the A/C today though. Another hot one.

I did just turn mine on, but not very high. I need it to counter the heat from my computer.

During sunny season here in my country we used electric fan,We seldom use the air conditioning because of being worried also with the bill. Now it's a rainy season and we still use the fan,We are just used to have it always.

Fans move the air around that that's good for several reasons.

When I visited the Phils several years ago, everywhere I went everyone would plunk me down in front of at least one fan...usually more than one. They all knew that I was from a cooler climate so nobody wanted me to be too hot. They were very sweet all the time.

I would rather be comfortable whatever it costs. What does annoy me though is when we have the heating on and my husband goes out of the door and leaves it open, thus allowing all the heat to escape! When I tell him off he says 'it was only for a minute'. NOT. Grrr.

I have to figure out something for us this winter, because that door lets out all our heat.

@Rollo1 Well doors have obviously got to be used, but they don't have to be left open

I feel the same way. My frugal self hated the power bill even on level pay, but the heat was horrid and that A/C did feel so nice occasionally.

Here in Oregon, we had an exceptional hot summer, and my AC didn['t work so I had to use fans to keep myself cool. It did as long as I put the fans in the windows at night, and took themout during the day. I am glad that if finally cooled offo. It will warm up some this weekend, so I will probably have to use the fans again, but it won't last so that is a good thing too.

Glad you aren't having to run the AC 24/7, not good for power bills.

We suffer in the summer, because I'm too cheap to use AC. We keep the thermostat at just barely comfortable in the winter too...gotta keep those bills down. They can creep up pretty fast.

The weather has slowly starting to drop and its nice. It was very humid and hot this summer, which made it a lot worse. I don't have AC or can afford it for that matter. I sat sweating my butt off, but now its nice to have the window open.

I do not fret about the electric bill I turn the AC on if it's needed to be comfortable. The Lord takes good care of us and we are fortunate to be able to pay our electric bill, thank You Lord. I realize we are very blessed as their are less fortunate souls who don't even have a fan let alone an AC. God bless the less fortunate

Our electric bills can be horrid. I can't stand to be hot. I'd rather do without heat than air.

I agree. One can put on extra clothes and huddle under blankets if it is cold.

Most days we are already cold enough for heating today it feels freezing, I've got a thick jumper on, and if it gets colder I might put the throw over me, I'm trying not to put the heating on until next month. My one weakness is my electric blanket, I had that on some nights in August
