A Penny Saved...You Know What They Say.

I found a penny on the sidewalk today. Yes, it came home to live with me. I always try to pick up coins that I spot when I'm out and about. Sometimes it's just a penny, other times a dime or a quarter or a nickel. Do you pick up coins that you see on the street or sidewalk? Even pennies? I think it's a good idea as you never know when you just might need that penny. I think a lot of people just either overlook them or ignore them...not me...no way Jose! Got my nose to the pavement all the time. Well, practically.

Yes, I am always doing that. I have a 'change jar' that sits in my bedroom, and when I fill it with loose change, I will roll it all and then deposit it into my savings account. I know at times it's only a 'penny' as you said, but over time, it adds up.

@Novelangel Yes, it truly does. I am not ashamed to bend over and pick it up either.

They say it's "lucky" to find lost change, so who am I to ignore that. :) I do pick up coins that I find on the ground, even a penny. Well, sometimes, I move the penny so someone else can get it, like if I see a little child walking along that will see it soon. They get so excited.

That's a great idea, letting children find the coins. IF their parents allow them to pick them up, that is. There are a lot of parents around here who won't let their kids touch ANYTHING. I'm like, okay, I believe in cleanliness but this is ridiculous if your kid can't touch anything.

@Novelangel Yeah, that does sound like a bit much. I mean, you can keep a thing of hand sanitizer in your bag, right? I'm all for cleanliness too, of course, but you still have to let kids be kids.

Exactly. It's such a waste of good money to just leave it lying there.

People carry less cash these days, fewer coins. It's not as easy to find change on the sidewalk as it once was. And if you find a credit card or a debit card, you're not allowed to keep it

I only found a credit card once, but I think the owner was attempting to throw it away since it was on the pavement near a dumpster, in a parking lot. BUT...I picked it up and turned it in anyway, as that is just the wrong way to dispose of it. At least cut it apart or something first.

People look at me like I'm mental when I get excited when I find a penny. But, just think of it this way. If I found a penny a hundred times, I'd have a dollar. And those dollars grow as you keep putting money away. I've always made it a habit to save loose change. Some people, they let the change fall from their pockets. Or just tell people to keep the change. Pardon the expression, but it's leaving money on the table, and if you're not going to take it, I would. The pennies can add up. Maybe not too fast, but they can add up in time.

They certainly do add up, and before long you have several dollars you can deposit into the bank. Yeeha! Everyone likes a little deposit now and then. I don't even care who's looking. I just pick 'em up and pocket them as fast as I can. One day I found a dollar bill. Can't beat that! (Well, I guess you could if it were a twenty. LOL)

I don't but my partner does. If he is riding his bike and he sees a coin he will stop and pick it up. I might stop for a note though!

Oh yeah, I always stop for a note. The largest amount I ever found was a $20.00 bill. That came at a time when we really needed it, so it was greatly appreciated.
